hello,

my husband had his (CR-1) visa interview on the 15th of january. the interview went well...the officer was lovely, asked my husband three questions and looked at some of our photographs, took his passport and told him he would be getting his visa. we were missing one document (copy of his fingerprints to accompany the police certificate), but the officer said it was not a problem and that he could bring them when he picked up his visa. because we were missing that document, we got the blue sheet that says you can't be issued visa now because you're missing document xxxx, but that he should return on the 26th of jan to pick up his visa. i definitely double checked with the officer, and he reiterated everything was fine and he would be getting his visa...NO mention of admin processing/review/any problems.

so the 26th was yesterday, and my husband doesn't have his visa. he travelled to the embassy, handed in his fingerprints, and then was initially told to return on the 5th of feb. then the woman spoke to someone else, and told him his application is in administrative processing (i think processing?) which could take 3-12 months, gave him a phone number to call after three weeks, gave his passport back to him, and sent him on his way.

i have no idea what is going on! my husband wasn't given any explanation, or the opportunity to speak to an american embassy worker. the only person i've been able to get through to on the phone is the same bloody lady he spoke to yesterday!

has this happened to anyone else...being told to return to pick up your visa, and then being told about admin processing? i am certainly aware that some applications go through this processing, but i was also under the impression that you're informed of this at the interview? i didn't think they would make you return after two weeks (nairobi is a two day journey for my husband as well), just to return your unstamped passport to you and tell you to wait a bit longer.

we've been pretty patient throughout this entire process (one year in february)...but is this the time to get in touch with senators/representatives? could the processing just be a result of submitting a new document? anyone have any ideas what might be going on!?

thanks,

caitlin.

I've seen it happen in the US embassy in Colombia right after the interview, they were not told to pick up the visa but to wait for the embassy to call them until the AP was done. It's quite normal and all you can do now is wait.
