I-864 queries

Ok I had been approved 2 years ago for a LPR K4 category and have been waiting for the current date to move to Aug 2001 (I recon about another 9 months looking at the Visa updates). Yesterday, my father received a letter with I864 form to be filled in and returned.

My questions are these:

1. Does the I864 need my signature? I am currently in the United Kingdom, not the US? Can they sign themselves and for me without comitting perjury?

2. Does this mean (if looking at the I130 process page correctly) that once this is filed the Visa Centre will send me forms such as A230 and is this medical and police check forms to be filled in. After this is done, does this mean it's a medical and interview?

3. I thought I wouldn't hear anything from them until my Visa date was current with my priority date on my I130 (namely until it reaches Aug2001), is this normal?

4. Does anyone know the time frame for getting through these?

I-864 is a contract between a sponsor and government that a benificiery (you) wan't use certain funds... You are not a contractual party, no need for your signature.

Your file is at NVC. For some countries NVC does everything including scheduling the interview... for other it doesn't. Yes, you'll get bio-form to fill in and you'll be asked by either NVC or your consulate to get medical and police report (you don't get forms to fill in)

yes, NVC starts sending out required documents when an immigrant visa number is ABOUT to become available. That way you save a few months..

first, it depends how fast you guys respond to the requests... second, on when PD becomes current.... third, how busy is the consulate you'll be going through
