On a side note, I find it ironic how we "bring democracy and freedom" to these "oppressed" countries by imposing martial law, curfews, confiscating their beared arms that they use for their own security, and then the politicians pat each other on the back, and say we've made great "progress"

The list of Arab democracies is as short as an ant's underbelly which has nothing to do with Bush. The Arab world doesn't revolve around the White House and it's safe to say Obama won't bring any freedom with his presence on TV. Obama's military surge in Afghanistan isn't going to happen with soldiers tossing marshmellows so you better get used to reconciling your views of the new president.

As special envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell heads off to the region to begin work on negotiating a cease fire between Israel and the Palestinians, President Obama has sat for his first formal TV interview with the Arabic cable TV network Al-Arabiya, ABC News has learned.

The interview was taped this evening and is set to air at 11 pm ET, as Mitchell is in the air and on his way to the region.

Based in Dubai, Al-Arabiya estimates that it has a potential audience exceeding 23 million in the Gulf region.

Excellent news, if America needs to talk to anyone in the world it's those in the middle east and if anyone can try to bring things under control over there it'll be Mitchell. More will be archived by talking, negotiating than simply by sending arms to Isreal so they can continue the insanity.

Your theory neglects that U.S. influence in Afghanistan was minimial after the Soviets left. We could lob more cruise missiles in as we did in the 1990s but that failed and we got 9/11 instead.
