Salam Allykum, I am just starting the process for my Moroccan husband. I have lived in Morocco for a month now with him and his family and im not leaving till he can come back to the US with me. Anyways, my questions are: If I have to wait six months for the residency requirement, can i file the petition now from a US address to the Chicago lockbox, instead of waiting six months of my residency in Morocco, to file at the embassy?

If i decide to file at the embassy, do i really need a Moroccan Residency card? I have been telling my husband to take me to get it for two weeks now. But things dont get done as fast as they do in the US.

Where do i get this card? At the Police station by our house?

Are there times when the embassy will let you file before six months because of medical conditions, such as mine?

I brought enough of my meds for a year here.

What about sending money to the US to pay USCIS fees? My husband says your not allowed to send dirhams out of Morocco, only people can send to them. Can we pay the fees at the embassy

Thanks in advance for any info, sweetcitygirl

Hi, as for the Carte de Sejour, or Carte d'Immatriculation, you get it from your local gendarmes (if you're in a more rural town) or the police (if you're in a bigger town). I'm not sure what you need to give them if you're living in Morocco cuz you're married (I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco so we had to provide work letters), but I'm guessing you'll need your marriage certificate, copy of passport, 12 or so passport photos, a letter from wherever you're living, and a 60 dirham tax stamp. If you go to the police, they'll tell you everything you need. Generally you have to file within a month (or 3?) or living there, I think. So you better go ask! And best of luck!! BTW, it can take MONTHS for the actual carte to be delivered to you. Like 4 months or more. When you've submitted all of your paperwork, you should ask for a receipt, so maybe you can use that as evidence of residency.

I hope that helps, some! again, best of luck and Mabruk on your marriage!

You are mixing up 2 different petitions. You either go with DCF after 6 months of residency or apply in the US and go with a convential CR-1 which you can do right now.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

Can we pay the fees at the embassy

Payments to the USCIS must be in US dollars so dirhams is not an option

For a locally filed I-130, but I don't think so for a USCIS filing... the consulate is Department of State while the USCIS is Department of Homeland Security.

YMMV

Yes you can file directly in the US.

I would recommend to post your questions in the MENA forum. You will probably get more responses there.

Good luck.
