Since this is the Yardie thread, who knows the best time to buy tickets to go to Jamaica? I am a teacher in NYC so I get a lot of vacay days (thank God or I would really go crazy), but I find that the cheapest ticket I have bought so far, since traveling to JA since last April, was $6290. To go down for Christmas I paid over 1g. I am going back down in Feb  and I paid close to 600 bucks with Air Jamaica. My point is, is there a trick or a secret to buying the tickets? Do I have to buy them way in advance or last minute? Either way, I have to c my husband so I will spend the money, but if I could save a few bucks that would not be so bad.

On another note, what is the process like at the embassy in Jamaica? Is there anything that my husband can be doing to prepare for....whatever??? Is there anything I can be doing? Should we be saving anything in particular? Should I print out pics of us (mot of our pics are on my computer)? And, I make enough money to sponsor him, so do I still have to put info about my bank accounts or will my tax info for the past three years suffice?

I know that I am asking a lot of questions, kinda nervous and bugging out at the same time.

Peace, fro now.

Kimeisha aka Tigressbennett

Sorry, I actually paid 629 not 6290...

Wow, Tigress you are paying HIGH HIGH fares if you live in NYC - I just booked for March and paid $186 RT - try playing with your dates and moving them around - I think the highest I paid was $450 RT - and I paid way way less than that for Christmas and New Years - Lots of sales going on now, just search the different sites.

As for preparing, others will have better advice than me - But definitely print out the pics, etc.. so that you have them for the interview.

Where in JA is your hubby? There is alot of info in the Yardie thread pinned at the top - you have to weed through the chatter, lol

He is in Kingston. I am so hating that u pay so little, maybe I should rethink that move to Florida. My dates are pretty much set in stone because of the school holidays and I usually fly out the day after school lets out and fly back right before school restarts that way I get to spend all of my time with him. I guess I will just keep paying out of my a@#.

Kimeisha,

that is way lot :) like Sus said, play with ur days travel depart or arrive btwn tuesday and thursdays.

cards, phone bills, letters, notes,

Thanx for the advice.

Welcome to VJ!!!

Thanx

Kimeisha, I'm guessing ur a teacher?

Yeah, I am so I am unable to move my dates around unless it is the summer. I am so looking forward to this summer. In August we will celebrate our 1 year anniversary, I can hardly wait. I plan to visit 2x before the summer, in Feb and in April. Both times, the tickets are at least 550.

Going to be expensive during those times you mentioned cause it's a pretty popular time. I think with the economy like it is right now, You might find some better deals closer to your travel dates.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

I paid $456 for the trip last week, flying Continental directly from Houston to Montego Bay.

Had I waited like my aunt did, I could've got that same ticket for $386. That's what I'm paying when I go in May.

I'm going in March for $332, which is the lowest price I've paid for Jamaica so far.
