My boyfriend and have both decided we are going to apply for the K1 visa and are, at the moment, compiling documents etc in preparation for sending away the I-129F petition.

We both stumbled across this website and have found it so, so helpful. At first you feel as if you're the only people in the world having to go through this, but its so good to hear from all the other people out there experiencing the same.

Russ plans to visit me for the months of May & June this year. On his trip home, I will travel with him to visit for the 90 days, so whilst I'm there, we are both thinking of mailing off the I-129F package and finally starting the process then.

Once I arrive home in September/October, does anyone know if we are able to continue visiting each other whilst our application is in process. I've heard of possible problems with me travelling over to the USA, but would he be able to travel here, instead?

And eventually when we have reached the stage whereby I have my interview date at the US Embassy in London, does anyone also know if he is allowed to accompany me and then afterwards travel back to the US with me aswell. We'd both like to re-enter his country together before we get married as I also have a pet dog I'd like to travel with and it'd be much easier (and less stressful and nerve wracking) if we could do it together.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Good luck to you all. Its so inspiring to read all of your stories!

Hi Lil_missy_in_love,

my fiancee who is from Canada just got done with her interview Wednesday ( jan 21st) and received her K1 visa on Friday ( Jan.23), so now we have a date set. It is a long process but the wait is worth it  . Things to remember that the K1 visa is good for only for one time, meaning that if you want to go back to England to visit family you may have a hard time coming back to the US, we just found that out and all the research I did never came across anything about it. So once she enter the US on the K1 visa she will set start the process for the Green Card. which can take up to 12-16 months.

To answer your question you could visit on a tourist visa while you application is being process. When you travel back with him it would most likely be best that you both pass custom separately. Why? so that you won't get hassle about your visit into the country, they will make you feel that you are coming and try to get married and stay. It happen to us the first time she came across and she had a passport. So every time she came across she said that she was staying for only 10 days. Your boyfriend can not go inside with you during the interview, he wait outside for you. My fiancee interview was in Montreal while she went inside I wait across the street at a coffee house. Since my fiancee doesn't drive I will be driving up to Windsor Ontario to pick her up and drive back with her, that will be next weekend. I which you the very best of luck be patient as I said it is a long process, the US government like paperwork. I hope that is helpful for you I will follow your progress. Take care

Thank you so much for your reply, Melchior55! Well done on getting the k1!! Congratulations to you and your fiancee.

I meant (about travelling back into the USA), once I actually have my K1 visa, that I would like to do it with my boyfriend with me - who shall be travelling back home after visiting me in the UK. I understand he will not be able to be with me at the POE and whilst I go through my documentation with the officials, but can he be out of his country whilst the application is in process after he files the I-129F?

Hope thats clear.

Thank you!

Oh and does anyone have any advice about what we can start to prepare in advance now? Ie - have ready birth certificates etc... We want to avoid discovering we need stuff later, so we really want to be prepared.

Thankyou!

Ok, Hal came over here a couple of times to the UK, no problem. I also went over for xmas and was totally paranoid i'd be stopped so had all our k1 papers, letter from work, bank statements and everything to prove i was coming back but she literally just waved me through so it should be fine to visit.... not sure if that answered the question but hopefully! msg me if it didn't!!! also, get ready - birth certificate, the long version, police certificate (35 pounds, takes about 10 days, link is on the UK forum i think) affadvits of support stuff - bank statements etc...passport photos (US style) evidence of continued relationship, think that's about it... good luck!!

Hello and welcome to VJ. God bless and good luck on the journey. May I suggest you also go to the regional forums at the bottom and there will be one for many other UK'ers that are also going through the process. Read what they have done and ask any questions specific to your country. Follow the link to the guides given and do what they say. There are also examples of any forms to follow.

Yes he can visit you anytime. You can also visit but of course after the petition is sent in and logged into the system they will check you thoroughly at customs. Sometimes they have denied but the best thing is to do searches and go to the regional and see why and under what circumstances. Also may I suggest from this point on to start gathering all chats, emails, calls, etc. Take many pics when together at different places and different days and clothing. More relationship proof is best. Again Good luck.
