Ukraine - Filing the I-130 and I-864 at the same time at DCF

Hi,

I am a US citizen about to file my I-130 for my Ukrainian husband in Kyiv, Ukraine.

It says on the Embassy web-site that it is optional to file the I-864 at the same time as the I-130...

I already have all of my joint sponsors complete I-864 with supporting documents and as I have not had an income since 2003, my I-864 isn't difficult to complete

My question is, has anyone filed both at the same time? I figure it will save me a step (and if I need more info then I've already collected proving domicile) and not have to sweat through the petition approval and waiting for my hubby's interview at the consulate to find out somethings wrong!

Also, will he also need a copy of my and the joint sponsors I-864 if they have already been given?

In your case, I would say go ahead and do this. I-864 information and supporting documents must be dated within 1 year of submission so there is no big advantage of waiting until the last moment.

Yes, send a copy of EVERYTHING to your husband and have him bring it to the interview. He will probably NOT need it, but why not? The embassy in Kyiv is a very good and pleasant one to deal with, BUT they do demand that all documents be present and in the proper "form" (original, copy, translation) so check and double check that you send them everything.

In just the last few days, I have cleaned out my "files" and kept only ONE copy of everything in three separate folders; I-129f, interview, AOS. The pile of "stuff" I collected, copied, organized...and then never used...was a far bigger stack than the documents they looked at, but do not regret a moment I spent collecting, copying and collating!

Thanks Gary! Since I'm DCFing, he already has all the copies and I'll be going to the interview with him as we live in Ukraine. Praying for approval on Tuesday!
