Hey guys I have a question I'd like to get some information for. Basically I wanted to know what the process if to apply for a K1 visa. Who is the one that has to apply for it?..is it the individual who is going to the other country? Also how long is the K1 fiance/fiancee visa lasts for?...now in order to change your status to Permanemt Resident after arriving in the country, what is the process for that, and how long does it normally take for you to get it?..Would you have to marry your fiance/fiancee in the country in order to be eligible to change your status to green card holder?

Thanks for all the help guys,

Cheers :)

Hello there, the US citizen has to petition on behalf of the beneficiary. Take the time to read the guides at the top of the page. All the information you need is there. Take care.

- Sponsor applies for it, but you will need info & signatures from your fiancee

Also how long is the K1 fiance/fiancee visa lasts for?

- I believe it's valid for 6 months after issuance

Now in order to change your status to Permanemt Resident after arriving in the country, what is the process for that, and how long does it normally take for you to get it?

- You have to marry within 90 days of your fiancee's arrival in the USA. You then apply for AOS (Adjustment of Status) which is more paperwork and $1010.

- It takes several months from the date you submit the petition to the date of the interview & there are things that happen in between (like going to the medical). Plan on at least 6 months, probably longer.

Would you have to marry your fiance/fiancee in the country in order to be eligible to change your status to green card holder?

- Yes, if you don't marry she has to go back home.

Follow the links provided by others for specifics.
