Translating letters, chats, etc?

When I sent in my I-129F package, everything was in English except a letter from my fiance, which I only included as extra proof of our relationship. Will this affect the approval of our application at USCIS?

Also, for his interview we plan on printing out some Yahoo messenger chats, which are also all mostly in Spanish. I am assuming that his interview will be conducted in Spanish (at Embassy in Guatemala City), but since it is a US consulate, will we need to get these chats and other documents requested like his Birth Certificate into English? Or for the purpose of the interview (if it is in Spanish) will I need to get my BC and my Divorce Decree translated into Spanish? I'm so confused! Thanks!!!

The I-129F has to be in English since it is processed in the USA.. .if it is approved she will be coming to the US and you will be together for the interview...

You don't need "extraproof" for the I-129f. You only need to show you have met, in person, at least one time in the last two years. An email or chat of any type cannot prove that and isn't needed, but it didn't hurt anything. They went through your file (or will) and threw it in the trash.

Anything presented at the US consulate as evidence must be presented in its original form WITH an English translation, so if you will use chat logs, you will need both the original and a translation. There are better ways. Use photos, phone bills, travel documents, funds transfer receipts etc.

My chat logs are also in English and in a foreign language. I type in English and she types in Chinese. So there are many many pages of chat logs and I only intend to print out a few and translate them. So my question is, do I need an official translator to translate them? Can I do them myself? And if i am translating these chat logs, how would I present the translation on the document? Just go in and erase the Chinese text and type in with English?

The letter he speaks of is not required for the I-129f as "evidence of realtionship" is not required. Since it is an un-required document it will not matter that it is in Spanish.

Any documents turned into the consulate must be the original (original language) a copy of the original, and an original translation. For future reference.

Since chat logs are not official documents and submitted as a "body of evidence" (which is why you do not submit ALL of them) it is probably not necessary to translate them at all or simply write translations in the margins. People at the embassy will be able to sepak and rad both languages and can check your translation. As long as you have plenty of other evidence, this will be fine. If it is the bulk of your evindence then I would do complete translations on a separate sheet and attach them. You can translate them yourself.
