I am trying to travel outside the US, currently I have filed for a removal of conditions but all I have is an expired card. I received a letter from INS stating my conditional residency had been extended one year for work and travel.

I have a British passport, can I possibly go into an office and get it stamped to let me back into the country?

You should be fine travelling with the NOA extension letter and the expired green card. If you feel you will have a problem, or if the extension expires during the time you are out of the country, then you can certainly make an INFOPASS appointment and ask to have the I-551 stamp placed in your passport. They may or may not do so as you do have the extension letter which states it extends the status of your green card and is good for work and travel purposes.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I have travelled to Australia and Canada whilst my removal of conditions has been pending . You need to have your expired greencard, NOA (extension letter) and your passport and you won't have any problems. I also carry my marriage certificate because my passport is still in my previous name and keep my biometrics letter which is stamped handy too.

Hope this helps and happy travels :)

Thanks for the help. I had tried to set up an INS appointment but in Las Vegas I guess they are booked for next three weeks. So I set one up in Phoenix, AZ and was going to fly down on Tuesday night for a Wednesday appointment. But from what you guys are saying it doesn't appear this is needed thanks for replies.
