Spelling question

Hey Folks, I have a question.

My wife is the US citizen sponsoring my green card. When filing for I-130, she has to send in her W2. The thing is that she changed the spelling of her first name when registering with her job, so the spelling of her first name in the W2 is different than the one in her passport or birth certificate. Would that be a problem? (the name still sounds the same, just the spelling is different, from Marsha to Marcia). Should she attach a letter explaining that, or shouldn´t we mention anything and they will probably think it was a typo?

Personally, I would just leave it and explain if you are asked about it, which you probably won't be.

Tisk Tisk, her HR dept can get into trouble for that. When we do new hires if they spell or put any name other than what appears on the social we can be fined by SS $50 for each record.

I have a similar thing - the name on my W-2 is Chris and on passport and paperwork, it is Christopher. Is this likely to cause problems?

for all legal purpose i would have same spelling on all there is big differece here between the name marsha and marcia even when spoken. Go with birth name unless legally changed
