I know a lot of you say dont get one, its pointless. Try explaining that to my better half, lol. But hey, I cant blame him for wanting to make sure things go without a hitch.

Does anyone have any referals at all for any good immigration attorneys in Tampa? We spoke to one today, their firms been doing immigration for a looong time, and most uscis staff in the city know their staff. He will do the paperwork for Cr1, do everything for AOS after I come in on the cr1, and come to the interview too.

But just wondering if anyone else has had a good experience with theirs?

Well for one there is NO AOS for cr-1!! 2 yrs (minus 90 days) u file the I-751 to remove conditions. And there is NO requirement for a lawyer at the Interview in Montreal. Who is payinf rot he plane ticket from Tampa to Mtl?? We had a lawyer, what a waste of $$$,lol YOU still have to get them the information, and get all the documents (divorce cert, long form birth cert, etc etc)

If i were you, get ur other half to come on VJ and save urself some $$$$$$. A lawyer doesnt have any "ins' with the staff. Hell my wife worked at the State dept at the time, and talked with people that worked immigration, lol and they didnt pull any strings. Not the info you wanted, sorry, lol

As I said I had a lawyer, and guess what they are in most cases--an expensive proof reader. We still filled in the documents--they dont know ur personal information!! Sure she was nice, but not worth the $2500 plus filings! Then she emailed us and said for a measly $1000 she would do the 751 for us,lol Took me all of 5 minutes to fill out that 1 form!

There are examples of filled out forms on VJ under example forms!! What more do u need than VJ, seriously, lol Put the $$ towards a holiday. Now if ur cases was complicated, that may be another story, but from ur previous posts, i don't think it is. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I took an extra month to find a personable hard working lawyer that fills out the forms herself and takes my calls and never bills me. I know it is pretty easy to do without the lawyer but I like my lawyers response she was honest and thorough and very helpful. :

My SO called an Immigration Attorney in Tampa. He informed him that I did NOT have to go to Montreal for the interview that I could go to Toronto. I figured if he wasn't even aware that they don't do K-1 visa's there yet was telling us how he has done HUNDREDS of k-1 visa's from Canada. Forget it. We did it ourselves. When my SO was living here we used an immigration attorney. He is back in the USA as his temp work visa was denied and he was going to be deported if he stayed. lol So much for the wonderful attorney. If we had done it ourselves he would still be here. Oh and that cost us thousands and thousands....I don't even want to go do the math and see how much we paid him. I'd throw up.
