A man murdered his estranged wife after he became “enraged” that she had changed her marital status to single on the social networking site Facebook.

Edward Richardson, 41, was found guilty of stabbing to death Sarah Richardson, 26, a hairdresser, in her parents’ house in Staffordshire on May 12 last year.

Fiona Cortese of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Richarsdon became enraged when Sarah changed her marital status on Facebook to single and decided to go and see her as she was not responding to his messages.”

Stafford Crown Court heard that Richardson, a carpenter from Biddulph, Stoke-on-Trent, had sought out Mrs Richardson in her parents house and entered by breaking the front door window.

“Once inside he found Sarah in her bedroom and subjected her to a frenzied and brutal attack with a knife and then attempted to take his own life,” said Ms Cortese.

She said: “We hope that today’s guilty verdict will go some way to easing the pain of Sarah’s friends and family after losing her in such a violent and abrupt way.”

Jealousy to that degree is probably a psychological disorder. Poor woman, she tried to get out of a freaky relationship and that happened.

The title is a bit disingenuous, as if the evil intwebz had some bearing on it, via this change from married to single on face book. Oh well...

Suppose if my wife did that, would be curious if other guys found her attractive and laughed about it. But if she is looking and not happy with me, so be it, would just be happy with the years we spent together, ha, if she could find somebody better.

What this guy should have done if he really wanted revenge, is leave a note saying I blew my head off because you changed your marital status from married to single on facebook, then blown his head off. That way, maybe she would have a guilt complex for the rest of her life. Or just shake it off, I married a nut.

I would be surprised if the guy suddenly snapped. A personality disorder that extreme would probably have already manifested itself in the relationship in some other way before this happened - a history of domestic violence for instance.

Yes I agree... but age I am sure played a factor in their failed marriage... She was only 26... So she was how young when they were married... 26 is a lot different than 41 once you remove love from the equation

Yes I agree... but age I am sure played a factor in their failed marriage... She was only 26... So she was how young when they were married... 26 is a lot different than 41 once you remove love from the equation

I can see your point, especially if he was domineering and controlling which played a big part in their courtship.

It actually sounds a lot like my friend's situation. She was 15 when she met the guy (then 26) who got her pregnant.

I think there's some deviant psychology adult men who deliberately go after teenagers (presumably because they're easy).
