Do I need a letter of custody? I saw people mentioning it here... If yes, what does it have to say? We are clueless...

Baby and I are going to Europe during the time that hubbie has to do some training in Alabama.... I don't want to be stopped at the airport by some officer claiming I'm abducting my own child

Do babies fit in carryon?

:bonk:

You takes your chances when you post in OT.

I'd check the government website travel section for whatever country you are visiting. They should have the information there. Rogue's response is good too.

It's a letter of permission from the other parent permitting their child to travel and can really be in pain in the butt if that other parent is an ex. In our case, the SOB said sure even though my wife had full custody of her child. In a trip back to Venezuela, had to leave our daughter here, her biological father wanted $10,000.oo for that letter of permission. So she stay with my relatives. We would have no problems leaving the USA or getting back in, the problem for us would be leaving Venezuela, that is where we needed the permission, and even with full custody papers, that is their law. So she had to wait until she was 18 years of age before returning for a visit. We would have not needed that letter of permission even though our daughter was under 18 if she had a US passport, but that do not issue US passports to lawful permanent residents of the USA, so the only passport we could use was her current Venezuelan passport.

Now if you child is a USC with a US passport, I really don't know, but the Department of State website has all of that information, would your husband charge you $10,000.00 for that letter of permission?

Now regarding your circumstance

Hm I wouldn't know where else to post... Since all my GC stuff is done and it just doesn't fit anywhere else...

We have both a German passport and a US passport for our son. My DH would never have a problem with me traveling to Germany with the kiddos... We just want to make sure to have such a letter handy and notarized at JAG so we didn't buy an airline ticket and then cannot use it... Money doesn't grow on trees! ;)

Oh well we will just draft some sort of letter and have it notarized... I'll let you know how it works... It'll be notarized by JAG, that should impress the immigration officers somehow...

Though I wonder - is there nobody here who ever traveled to their countries with their kiddos in tow? How did that go????

We took the twins to Brazil when they were 6 months old. Isa and the boys traveled to Brazil 2 weeks before I was able to join them in Rio.

Besides passports for the boys, she also took a notarized authorization (from me) for her to take the boys on the trip (out of country and into Brazil) without me (document included trip start and trip end dates). This was to satisfy any immigration officer in either country in the event there were any questions as to why I was not accompanying her and the boys. The trip went very smooth and she never needed to present the documentation. She had the documentation "just-in-case" and for piece of mind in the event "just-in-case" did happen.

fwiw:

The immigration officers got a kick out of the twins and their passport photos. They had to look long and hard at each passport and at each child to tell who was who. We needed to help the immigration officers to match the boys with their documentation in Brazil and in the US
