MENA men and style

We had a thread here a year or so ago about how MENA men are a little..............almost metrosexual in the way they dress, care for themselves. I never really paid attention to it until just recently. At first my husband sure put a little more cologne on than the average men that I work with do but I figured that was just him and heck he smells awesome so who am I to complain?

He's vigilant about conditioning his hair and OMG I don't know what he'll do when the conditioner that he brought from Cairo runs out. Apparently nothing in the world compares to this stuff. I've used it and it is good but I'm not that picky plus I wear hijab so who the heck cares if my hair is all pretty half the time.

My dad gave him tons of jackets when he got here. Spring/Winter ones and good ones from Eddie Bauer and North Face. Well since he's been here he bought two, I just got him one yesterday and he just told me he wants two more. Me/ I have two jackets, like my dad. One for spring and one for fall/winter. Hubby needs one for on the way to work, out with the kids and me, out for errands, out for a night on the town, etc. Different jacket for different occasions.

Cream. His skin has been very dry but instead of using the Vaseline Intensive Care stuff he went with me to Sephora and is now hooked on Jack Black products. (Are they by the actor Jack Black or is it a coincidence?) I just put on his handcream and it IS very very nice but I just giggle at the thought of him having a costmetic line that he likes. Usually it's women who love MAC or Clinique, etc. I never hear of a man saying at a bar with his buddies, "guys have you checked out the new eye cream from Max Factor? It's FABULOUS!!!"

So is your guy very fussy when it comes to this stuff?

Yes and it makes me crazy. My husband also has this jacket fixation. I have maybe 4 jackets/coats for all seasons. I think he has about 5 jackets for winter and then let's not get started on the other seasons. What kills me is he wears the same one all the time, it's a basic winter jacket. He has like 3 top coats (dressy jackets) and he barely ever wears them but insisted he needs them. Hair and lotion nah he's not too fussy there (just Dove liquid bath wash). Clothes and shoes are his big thing....

It's all about the hair gel.

Mine hasn't really focused on a specific line, and he cuts his own hair, but the hair has to look good before he goes out, and he has to smell good. He hasn't gone overboard with jackets, especially since the weather is so mild here, but he does have three, and more clothes than I do now. He doesn't worry too much about brands in most cases, but he's picky about his jeans and his shoes. When he first got here, he'd go in the bathroom and scrub off his sandals before he went out.

Hahaha, my hubby is the same way.....completely, hopelessly addicted to fashion! He has a whole closet full of clothes and shoes (actually, so many shoes that they don't FIT in the closet)....and don't even get me started on sunglasses and cologne..... and all must be brand name (albeit they are mostly fakes, but that doesn't matter to him as long as they are well made of quality material - and he is an expert on this BTW - and proclaim their brand name labels!). He also uses hair gel/wax and spends hours crafting a perfect goatee...very metrosexual...

We can't leave the house even to go to the grocery store without him changing outfits a couple times LOL.

I must admit I love it though...I'm a complete pushover for a sharp dressed, good smelling, well groomed man...

LOL !! Good to see Im not alone!

My husband knows every name brand as well! Heck in the perfume section of Macy's he didn't even have to look at the label, he'd just smell the perfume and he automatically knew the name of the designer. I have never heard of half the designers he knows! Now granted, he did work in the beauty supply field so that has to do with some of it. It's funny though, I told him that I found a coat that I like and immediately he asked who the designer was. LOL I have no idea! I never ever look at that stuff! I swear I musta been a dude in another lifetime.

I FINALLY got Wael to buy another pair of shoes! He is so frugal (not cheap) and it really takes

alot to make him buy something. He ran out of cologne that he brought from Egypt and cannot get him to buy more. He also cuts his own hair (he doesn't care for the barbers here), and looks for gel that will last him!! He has two heavy jackets but I had to buy him a lighter one for here, and of course the first thing he did was look at the price. I told him "IT'S OK!!"

He uses my Aveeno lotion and loves it.

His dress is awesome! He's tall and built like a matador. He really could be a male model.

He is just a very humble person. I love this quality in him, but would love for him to buy something!

And I'm glad that my husband isn't the only one too, humpkinpumpkin!

Cologne, jeans, shoes, coats, hair products, exfoliating products for the shower, and on and on and on...

I always joke with him, "Who's the girl?"!

Sometimes it really makes me wonder.

Needed to edit to say that he does always look great though, so I put up with it!

"True freedom and the end of suffering is living in such a way as if you had completely chosen whatever you feel or experience at this moment. This inner alignment with Now is the end of suffering. Is suffering really necessary? Yes and no. If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth to you as a human being, no humility, no compassion. You would not be reading this now. Suffering cracks open the shell of ego, and then comes a point when it has served its purpose. Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary." Eckhart Tolle

I will never forget seeing the guys walking around Irbid with their fauxhawks that probably took an hour to prepare, and the skintight jeans and jackets. square toed dress shoes and collars flipped up

I was just like...really guys?

They all looked like they were getting ready to be discovered by some euro designer that would wisk them away to the catwalk.

Thank goodness my husband isnt THAT into it. lol

He loves clothes and shoes, and knows designers but i couldnt take that douche bag hair that they all had there.

Every once in a while he will tease me and flip his collar up and ask if i like it

My hubby has 1 1/2 closets full of clothes, and a bag full that he plans to take back to give to his uncle. My clothes fit well in 1/2 of the closet. More shoes than I ever dreamed of, and many he has never even worn. More coats than I own even though I am the one that has always lived in a state with all 4 extreme seasons. He has a drawer full of cologne while I have two. His sisters gave me both. He is always encouraging me to go buy more clothes, but I don't see why. I have plenty.

Oh well....we fit like a glove, that's all that matters to me.

Exfoliating products, yes. He's always saying he needs a day at the hammam to get the dead skin off. I brought back one of those scratchy things from Morocco, but I've misplaced it somewhere, and we don't have that caustic soap. (Close your eyes, Me-N-Him!)

I guess Fast Orange hand cleaner might work.

Before he came, he asked if he should bring his leather jacket. I told him it's just not that cold here much of the year and nobody wears them. He brought it anyway, and I have to say it suits him -- and people do wear them, I just never noticed.

I'm the one who never bothers to buy clothes, and he chides me for that. Sometimes when we're out, he'll grab something off the rack and say, "Here, get this for yourself." It's usually a good choice, too.

I dont get too crazy with primping but I do have the things I cant live without.

If my husband has the means....he will go all out and have no problems primpin himself

I.E. facials and waxing of eyebrows.

I want my man to take care of himself

he doesnt go overboard

he likes to have special toiletries

and sometimes takes longer to get ready and pick out clothes than I do

I am happy to finally have a man that likes to wear cologne

he definitely cant live without Gel

and I was happy sometime back to introduce him to good conditioner

due to his thick course hair...he needs it to tame his hair

i love his thick blacker than night hair

he has better hair than I do

crazy about shoes even tho most of the times we go out

he just wears his addias flip flops

lol

must make him feel like he still lives in the warmth of morocco

but in the dead of the winter freeze
