I need someone to tell me if this is normal....my spouse is here on a K1 visa, her daughter on a K2. We married, filed the AOS for both (sent in together) and both had the biometrics done on the same day. Now, we have an interview date for my wife on the 20th of June and one for my stepdaughter on the 20th of July. We did have an RFE on the child but turned the information in quickly (less than two days after we got the letter).

Is it normal to have seperate AOS interviews for a K1 and K2 visa holders? I find this somewhat amusing/annoying since my stepchild is 6...so what evidence of relationship am I supposed to provide?

It's almost as if USCIS is seeing them as two different people (rather than mother/daughter). Never mind the fact that thoughout both of their paperwork, they are both listed as mother/daughter and K1/K2 visa holders.

I suppose the other thing that could throw them off (remember who we are dealing with here...) is the fact that my wife and stepdaughter have different last names. This comes from the latin tradition of taking the last name of the father (but my wife was never married to her daughter's father).

I guess I shouldn't complain tooo much - we filed the AOS in late April and already have an interview date for almost exactly 2 months later (lawyer told us no less than 6).

Anyone else had seperate interviews for K1/K2er's? Does this mean I should not take my stepdaughter to the interview for my wife??

Thanks!

It could be a error on the interview letter. Make an infopass appointment.

We have apparently separate interviews for my husband and stepson, but they are on the same day and only 1/2 hour apart. My stepson is 10.

I was surprised to read how quickly you got your interviews!

I would guess that the RFE may have caused the paperwork to get split up... did you get the RFE before or after biometrics? My gut says definitely take your stepchild to your wife's interview and be sure to clarify the thing about the last names. Maybe they'll let you get them both over with on the same day. Maybe not, but it's worth a try.

Hopefully someone will answer who has already been through AOS and has more insight.

Best wishes!

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

Our interview was also 30 mins apart, but not seperate in any way. We all attended in one room together from start to finish.

My son's interview was for 30 mins after mine, but we all went in the same time.

The officer called all three of us at the same time.

I would take the child with you and see if they can just do it at the same time. Explain to them that you got two different dates. Probley just put the wrong month on it by mistake. Since both dates are saying the 20th.

Good luck :D
