Blair: Army interrogation manual to apply to CIA

President Barack Obama's pick to be the top intelligence officer says the Army Field Manual that outlines legal interrogation techniques will govern CIA questioning.

Retired Adm. Dennis Blair told the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday that the military field manual also will be reviewed for possible changes. The manual outlines 19 legal techniques and forbids nine.

Blair said it won't be called the Army Field Manual. He said it will be called "the manual for government interrogations."

He said there needs to be a single uniform standard for the treatment of detainees. Under the Bush administration, the CIA was allowed to conduct harsh interrogations that went well beyond the military methods.

Never seizes to amaze me how liberals who cannot stand or know how to communicate with conservatives in their own country are somehow going to convince ultra fanatical conservatives from abroad to play along. Good luck with that.

I am not an expert and not making out to be. I am just interested to see what methods they have in store.

I can say one thing, if an American is caught abroad most other countries will not return the favor. The methods used at gitmo are pale, girl scoutish, when compared to the methods countries like Russia use.

Not many detainees are worth handing over to the CIA anyway. Prisoners can be broken without real harsh methods but it takes a long time and the operational intelligence gathered can be worthless weeks or months later.

I've heard the "satellites and electronic eavesdropping can do all" before but you don't much now because those "experts" have been discredited in asymetrical warfare senarios .

Hopefully, Obama doesn't get caught with pants down by the enemy but it will happen because it happens to every president.

Slippery slope there, alc. We could go into whole different discussion as to whose expert opinion on the intelligence vs. manipulating intelligence reports to say what you want them to say. Big difference....but that's another topic. Back to topic.
