There's part of the problem highlighted. Nearly everyone here is more or less wary of ANY administration, be it Democrat led or Republican. Only those who are fanatically for Obama or fanatically AGAINST (note the word fanatic, it's connotations are quite clear) him can be correctly labeled as either Screaming Left winger (or whatever the US equivalent is) or Right wing nut case.

 coulda fooled me.

We are still in the "Honeymoon" mode. When the beer goggles wear off, then we will see exactly who we are sleeping with.

There is an element of that of course, but given that the outrage in this thread is in relation to a soundbite, kinda makes a mockery of the idea of legitimate criticism

Since when is stupidity quantifiable?

Ask britty....she seems qualified to make such declarations.

She's as qualified to think he's stupid as many are to think Bush is stupid. I also think Obama is stupid. He and little man Reich don't seem to be aware that white construction workers are an endangered species and could use a stimulus plan. That's just plain stupid.

How did I miss this gem. I suppose we can think whatever we want about our elected officials - as to whether our opinion are baseless or grounded in evidence....that's a different story - and is the gist of my argument. Again, re-emphasize there's a difference between saying something stupid and being stupid. britty, from her enlightening posts doesn't seem to make the distinction. Example - United Nations is corrupt because, according to her logic, there has been corruption within the governing body, yet she can't or doesn't make the same conclusion about the Bush Administration or other governments in general.

I am starting to think you don't like me Mr F Pants. Ok, I just need you to remind me where I posted a glowing reference for the Bush administration?? Obviously you like to read everything I write so I am sure you will find it sooner than I. Thank you in advance, and I look forward to posting more enlightening and informative comments for you in the future.

I'd like to make the same request, not just of Steven, but anyone who can show that I - as an assumed "right winger" - have posted positively about Bush or the Bush administration. I have, in fact, been quite critical when I posted about Bush at all.

It appears to me as though he is trying to push across the idea that not all the stimulus money is going to go into the construction sectors but also into other areas of economic decline. The highlighted part was badly worded, for sure, but I don't think there is any suggestion that this is some move to ensure all the money goes to people from ethnic minorities - which seems to be what is being suggested by the manipulated clip.

On a side note, I don't understand how these 'stimulus' packages work, quite frankly. It seems to me if you borrow money or print money to create economic activity but don't provide any form or equity or raw materials to underpin it, it's yet another house of cards - but I am not an economist so what do I know? :)

My opinion is that IF you are going to borrow (or print) 800 billion in any case, then what we should do is a 6 month TAX HOLIDAY. The government collects about 116 billion per month in taxes (mostly from our paychecks). STOP IT!!!!!!!!! What if everyone had the money they earn each week instead of taking it away and then "giving it back" in economic stimulus? Imagine the stimulus it would be if we all had the money we EARN!!! The government can then print, or borrow, the 800 billion to meet the needs of the commitments they already have. This would leave up to US, you and me, to stimulate the economy. We're not poor, and we are not on food stamps, but I assure you...give my wife an extra $250-300 per week and she will gladly stimulate the local economy with it!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to say, it will never happen, even though the stimulus would be greater and the cost the same. Why? Because there is no government control. The government doesn't get to decide. Obama and Rangle would have nothing to say about it.

This whole thing is about power and control and making more people dependent on government. It has nothing to do with saving the economy. It is, in fact, a political exploitation of an economic circumstance in order to incrementally increase the role of government. They love it when there is a "crisis" because then you HAVE to "do something" and too many people will jump at ANYthing in the na,e of economic help. Obamas program will create more people dependent on government, compliance with new government edicts in order to get a cash handout (witness the auto-makers who should be allowed to fail along with their unions).

But it is a good question to pose to anyone who says this plan of Obama's is NOT about control.

PS notice I do not pick on Democrats. Republicans are no more in favor of this than Democrats. They ALL want control...just of different things.

Don't take it personally, britty, and I apologize if you feel I'm singling you out. Your political opinions, however, are usually full of vitriol without offering any real articulated dissenting opinion, making it nearly impossible for anyone to engage in a meaningful political discussion with you. But don't feel alone...we seem to have a good number who aren't really interested in discussing politics.

I don't mind at all if you want to single me out. My political opinions are exactly that, mine. If you don't want to engage in a political discussion with me then simply refrain. I believe I explained fully the reasoning behind my opinions on the United Nations, but should you wish to hash that issue out, you will need to wait until I return from this week's business trip. I still haven't seen my glowing reference for the Bush administration however?

thanks....

Bizarre indeed, esp seeing how most construction workers are Hispanic.

White males are the minority in that business and need to be given special assistance.

hispanics are not the majority in bridge building. they are the majority in ditch digging, drywall finishing, and other such complicated jobs.

speaking as a qualified bridge construction inspector, i can tell you not many bridge mechanics are hispanic.
