its cringeworthy isn't it. I genuinely feel sorry for those people who are frankly stupid. Economic advisor my a$. But then Obama isn't the sharpest tool in the box either.

How do you measure stupidity?

how long is a piece of string?

britty has a knack for calling prominent political figures she doesn't like as being stupid, but doesn't bother to explain why. Saying something that is stupid is one thing. Actually being stupid is another.

In both respects George W. Bush was a notable success ;)

Bush had said and done enough stupid things to question his intelligence. We might argue over whether Robert Reich said something stupid, but the man is far from being stupid. There is a difference, but apparently that evades britty.

I certainly don't know enough about Reich (or Obama) to question something like that.

Actually, I didn't call Obama stupid, I said I didn't think he was the sharpest tool in the box. In a great number of my posts, I have given my opinions and backed them up quite nicely. I don't see a problem here.

Since when is stupidity quantifiable?

Ask britty....she seems qualified to make such declarations.

so you don't know then?

I know people like to be pedantic over the minutia of what they did and didn't say, but come on - that's really pushing it.

What are you doing Andy?...........Helping Amos.

What are you doing Nick?..........Watching Amos and Andy standing around, doing nuttin.

thread is rather disappointing. maybe it woulda got more play if he'd said "....black (or brown) construction workers."

The "brown contruction workers" are working, because they haul their asses down to Home Depot at 6 am to find work. The "brown agriculture workers" are working because they are standing there in the center of every farm town in America looking for work.

Let's see if that sparks the thread up!

--Bullwinkle

I guess not,

Any takers?

Maybe another day, maybe another topic.

What will be interesting over the next few months, is who becomes the real players, both as legislators, and policy makers. We have not seen a lot of the faces in eight years, i.e. Robert Reich, and we will see a few new faces nobody has ever heard of before. So, as everybody jockies for position, we will see more faux pas, I am sure. I think right now, there is a little grandstanding going on, but things will settle down. Too bad that it is the economic stimulus package that is on the table, while all this is going on.

A few chairmanships are still up for grabs, like Charlie Rangle's, who has a few problems that have recently come to light, and which might develope into a full-blown ethics committee investigation. Obama has made some good appointments so far, but many of his "advisors" are old school. So, wait and see?

What's the surprise here? The liberals look at this opportunity to target their niche constituencies and use this money, not to revive the economy, but rather to provide entitlements.

Forcing contractors to hire minority’s and "unskilled", 'un-white', workers as a condition of contract award isn't anything new.....We've had nearly 40 years of this kind of targeted entitlements; the cost borne by taxpayers to satisfy some liberal's distorted social engineering endeavor.

The Democrats have long held the majority of those in our society that believes themselves to be victims rather than participants in society. This is their base! Of course as we all know, the dems would like to reinforce that notion of victimization by continuing to making them wholly dependent on the entitlements doled out by the dems; this time linking their livelihoods to government interdiction on their behalf.

Let's not forget, liberals know what ails society, and of course who should pay for the remedy.....You, and I. Of course, and unfortunately for us they never volunteer their own money……

Just liberals doing what liberals do <shrug>....

Kaydee I'm guessing the son (or perhaps daughter) of a liberal beat you up daily & took your lunch money when you were a kid, because your hatred & obsession with this group is well beyond the norm.

Only liberals attack with such ferocity.....You clearly are a LIBERAL!!!!:wacko:

Here's proof that the dems, aka LIBERALS, are going to use "Stimulus" money to fund everything, and everthing that involves entitlements.....####### has this to do with creating JOBS?????????

Stimulus could pump $26M to Manatee schools

Economic stimulus would help offset state budget cuts

STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

The economic stimulus plan rolling through Congress could bring $26 million in additional funding for Manatee public schools over the next two years.

In all, Florida schools could receive $2 billion, easing the pain from yet another round of state budget cuts on tap for this spring.

The $825 billion stimulus package, backed by President Barack Obama, would set aside at least $100 billion for K-12 education and $21.5 billion for colleges and universities.

A congressional analysis that circulated Thursday estimated Florida school districts will get nearly $1.3 billion this year and $668 million in 2010.

Manatee schools could get almost $16.7 million this year, and almost $9.3 million next year, according to the analysis. Sarasota schools could get about $21.6 million over two years.

“This is a lot of money,” said Ruth Melton, legislative director for the Florida School Boards Association.

Much of the stimulus money is targeted for specific programs for low-income and disabled children and school construction. The congressional analysis did not include all school-related spending in the package.

State and district officials reacted cautiously, saying it remains unclear to what extent the federal money may come with strings attached.

The fact that the money is intended to supplement existing federal programs is a concern, said Jim Drake, Manatee schools’ assistant superintendent of finances.

“It’s certainly timely that they are doing that, and certainly, we appreciate it,” said Walter Miller, Manatee school board chairman. “The unfortunate part is, it does not appear to help us in the operating budget. Maybe there might be some language in there that can help move some money around.”

Also, the funding is only for two years.

“My primary concern is, (the stimulus is) only for two years, and we don’t want to take on something that we can’t sustain in the long term,” Drake said. “It takes a couple of years to work through an education plan. . . . What happens when the money goes away?”

The Florida Department of Education is certainly excited about the prospect of more money for schools, said spokesman Tom Butler. But “we really need to understand the details and requirements of the final package before we can estimate its impact on Florida.”

Education groups throughout Florida have been awaiting details on the stimulus package for weeks.

The Legislature cut education spending for the first time in decades in the spring and lopped off another $500 million in a special session this month. The cuts it will face in March are even bigger.

By some estimates, there may be up to $200 billion for schools in the stimulus package, said John Laughner, legislative manager for the Committee for Education Funding, which represents a broad coalition of national education groups.

He said legislative leaders are pushing to get a bill to Obama by mid-February.

The new president has “had a huge hand in what the bill looks like,” he said. “I would think it would be really difficult for (Congress) to shoot down one of his first requests.”

Lakewood Ranch High parent Brynne Anne Besio’s hope for any sort of federal education stimulus is simple.

“The main objective of any money should be to keep the reach of these (Florida’s) cuts out of the classrooms,” she said.

The St. Petersburg Times contributed to this report.

One wonders if he is going to get a good nights sleep over the next 4 years. His inability to distinguish 'libruls' from those who don't agree wholeheartedly with his, to my mind oversensitive point of view makes him a prime candidate for anxiety related illness. I almost feel sorry for the critter :)

I have to agree. This type of things have been around a long time. It is laughable when I hear about *change*. We have had this going on for decades when the Socialists were in power. Now we are changing right back where we were but now they are going to usurp the Neocons failed methods and cut taxes and spend a huge amount of money thus creating a huge deficit. Way to go sheep.

Bizarre indeed, esp seeing how most construction workers are Hispanic.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The right wingers would rather see Obama fail than our nation succeed. They have ranted, raved & whined relentlessly since Obama won the election & I have no doubt that they will continue for the next 4 years. Thank God the right wingers represent a relatively small percentage of opinions of Americans (I'm talking about the far right, who unfortunately are all too well represented here on VJ).

Seems I heard Rush Limbaugh make the same arguement eight years ago, when the right was right, and the left was wrong. Just an observation.
