Goodluck to Claudeth! I know it's really hard and scary thinking about driving. When I was still in PI 3 people help me learned how to drive but I didn't learned and they all give up teaching me. When I came here my mom in law paid for my driving lesson and its only good for 6 hrs...but not to brag after my lesson I did already start driving around our area( of course with my hubby beside me) And after a few months I took my road test and got my license:)

Tell Claudeth to relax and focus. Because the more she got nervous the more she can't control the car. And if ever she finish her driving lesson and she can't still drive with confidence, you can get those sticker with a sign: STUDENT DRIVER" and then stick it to your car every time she drive. I did that before and it works :)

She is more nervous about who the driving instructor is than the driving part now. She thinks everyone is going to do weird things to her, silly girl

Ha, since I have connections, took my then 16 year step daughter to our airport and used an inactive section of it for the first time she got behind the wheel, had to drive a mile before she could hit anything. After several hours of that, took her to a barren country road for more practice, then to the more quiet streets in our neighborhood, then finally to downtown with lots of traffic. This was after she got her learners permit and had to pass the written test to get that. Also went over the basics of a vehicle with her, lights, brakes, automatic transmission, she already knew how to play the radio.

Also used one of my vehicles that has a bench front seat, so if need be, I could slide over and grab the steering wheel and slam on the brakes, can't do that in a bucket seat vehicle with a huge console in the center. When I felt comfortable riding with her, then we switched to that little sports coupe I purchased for her, let her pick that out. After all that, she was still required to take drivers training at high school, they cheat and have a dual control vehicle, but she did quite well.

Between the ages of 16 and 17 according to our state law, a licensed driver had to ride with her, my law was either her mother or me. Took long trips on the interstate and to places like Milwaukee and St. Paul, and Madison. Did some work on her car some three years later and noted she put 40K miles on it already over a three year period, where in the hell did she go?

You can teach a person how to swim by tossing them into the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but not a very subtle approach. Being the nasty dad I am, she had to stay on the honor roll at high school so I could get a discount on her auto insurance, if her grades slipped, she had her keys taken away.

Assume that drivers school has dual controlled vehicles.

Don't know about your state, our DMV has sure gone to hell, have to get on the net and check various cities for an open appointment and make it on the net. Our city was scheduled solid for the next six months. Picked a much larger town 80 miles away where someone canceled after a lot of searching and made that appointment. Just to make sure she passed, we got there two hours earlier, and I had her follow, well behind others that were taking the test so she would learn the roads, she passed.

Takes a cool head to teach someone how to drive, but sure wouldn't want to do that for a living.

 They told me the car has two steering wheels and breaks and everything.

It breaks??? You want a better car than that one, then!

Poor baby, she is scared to death but has been carping about learning how to drive so I hired a professional.

Why the three year delay?

My wife doesn't have the EAD yet for starters so she doesn't need a car to go to work.

Was wondering the same thing.

I've been here 2 years and can't yet drive. I even have a car. With a rear spoiler. Can't drive the thing though. :P

Yes, it's nerves, yes, it's procrastination. Have to learn this year though, got a job where I have to move between two offices. Can't have my chauffeur husband driving me all over for that.

Wishing you all the best, Claudeth !

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I can't blame her. I feel they same before also. What we did we asked the driving school if i can have a lady instructor. I think you better get her a lady instructor so she is more relax and she can concentrate more better.

Thanks Dean. The guy was a little late so she was carping about that. She was all weirded out about the rain but I reminded her that he will take full advantage of it and teach her some foul weather skills.

she so confuses me from time to time. She has been carping about learning how to drive for weeks now so I purchase the package and then she started telling me she didn't know if she was ready or not. It's a no win situation for me.

It has been almost 2 hours now I am am assuming things are going well. At least she hasn't called me screaming yet
