what kind of process can i look forward to in the future to bring her mother and cat here?

(Presumably you mean to live - not simply visit.)

For the mother it'd be a very lengthy wait. The cat can come almost any time.

You cannot do anything about it, but your wife will need to become a US citizen first and then file for her mom. Once she does this, the whole process can take about a year. The cat won't need a visa. :)

After you marry, and file for Adjustment of status, and 3 years after getting green-card, and after filing to naturalize and becomes a US Citizen, your spouse can then file an I-130 for your mother in-law.

Only US citizens can file an I-130 for a parent, a US citizen CANNOT file an I-130 for an In-Law.

Moving this to "Bringing relitaves of a US citizen" forum.

Dianuchis, for parents it is longer than that.

Parents of a US citizen get an IR-5 visa, the processing time is the same as a CR-1 or IR-1 for a spouse of a US citizen, they too fall into the Un-limited class per DOS, so get an Immediate visa number once the I-130 is approved by USCIS.

Oh cool. So indeed the whole process would be say 5+ years from K-1 to bringing the mom, right?

Right, for the mom, not the cat. :)

Just wanted to add something. Please don't assume that US citizens petitioning parents will take longer than bringing a spouse, I have seen people say that a few times. I am petitioning two parents right now and I based my timings intially on those of US citizens bringing over spouses which are the majority on here. I should have listened to my parent's US embassy staff who told my Mum it is quicker to petition parents than a spouse and it would take about 6 months from start to finish, makes sense when you think about it because spouse petitions have extra paperwork and there are far more spouses being petitioned than parents, I know they say they are reveiwed in the order they are received but I find that hard to beleive as its so random.. Well I didn't listen and now the petition process is moving quicker than what we are ready for and we are having to stall. The UCIS approved their petitions in 3 months and the NVC are really quick, we had planned for a year plus and as you can see that is not quite what has happened. We are having to literally take our time in returning forms! If we really went full tilt and took heed of all the shortcuts I think we could come in under 6 months. My advice to anyone undertaking a petition is to be ready for any timeline!

Also it is 3 years not 5 years for a wife or husband of a US citizen to be eligible to apply for US citizenship themselves. The US citizenship process took approx 2 months from applying to receiving my certificate.

My Journey for my Parents ) IR5

(Please note we have taken our time and we could have gone faster with the NVC)

I have 2 petitions running at the same time, I have not posted 2 sets of dates because they have been processed either together or a few days of each other.

Yeah, can get Mom after citizenship, but cats travel visa free.......they are in a better situation than all.
