Hi

my wife submitted a I-130 for me.

shes a us citizen and has since come to live in the uk with me, until we can both move to the us to live.

we recieved an email saying that the I-130 has been approved and we plan to follow up accordingly.

im writing because i read in another thread in this forum that a ladies husband was denied his application

at an interview in london recently as the doctor claimed he has mental problems / alcohol addiction.

im worried not because i have an alcohol problem, ( i rarely if ever drink )

but when i was a few years younger i started suffering from mild anxiety and have been taking a very low prescription

of anti depressants for this ever since.

does this mean that i may come under the mental health act? and that they could refuse my visa just like the

man i mentioned above?

god i hope not

does anybody know anything about this, or has anybody experienced anything similar?

id really appreciate any help or advice

:)

Taking antidepressants as prescribed by a physician is no grounds for denial. They will ask you -at the medical- if you are a risk for suicide or hurting others.

The man you mentioned gave really poor judgment answers to the alcohol questions during the medical, hence the denial. You should be ok.

During the medical exam, the doctor asks you questions like: if you ever used drugs, if you smoke, if you drink too much etc. Also they ask if you ever tried to commit suicide, if you had any serious operation , nothing special.

So, don't worry at all.

the man you mention is my husband.

Yes he gave poor answers. He was nervous and a bit flippent in the medical exam.

I dont suggest ever lying. But I wouldn't offer up any information that is not requested of you. I think you will do just fine.

My husband had a 10 yr old Drunk Driving on his police record, which is where all the alcohol questioning came from in the first place.

If your record is clear you shouldn't worry. If it isn't...then they will probably do the same. and that is pick on whatever is on your record. If that is the case, at least you know this in advance and will make sure you answer their questions correctly and by thinking clearly. They just want to be sure you are no threat to the people in the United States or yourself, or that you wont come as a burden to this country and have to be looked after by the goverment. I am sure if your records show you take any sort of depression medication, they will just want to make sure you are ok, sane and not going to hurt yourself or others because of that issue. It's all in the way you answer the questions!!

Good Luck!!

thanks for the replies!

its put my mind at ease :)

forgot something - you might want to take a note from your prescribing physician stating the dosage and treatment, as well as prognosis. IF you get asked for it, you give it; otherwise just have for backup. They will ask you what medicationss you are on, they always do. their main concern is, like i told you; that you are not a risk to yourself an others. and since anxiety is not a communicable disease; you should be ok. Best of luck.

This is NOTHING like alcohol or illegal drug use; so let's not get lost ok?
