Hey everyone I'm having a huge issue and need help about what to do, I'm freaking out so bad!!!!

I got married last Friday and everything went perfectly well, I got to the US with a K1 visa so now it was my turn to adjust my status and start all the paperwork. My husband and I were about to leave for the social security office and well...I could not find my passport anywhere! I've been looking around the house and he says he's sure we'll find it, but I'm running out of places to look, please has anyone got an idea about what we should do_ I'm desperate and sad and scared because i don't want them to tell me I have to go back to my country and start the K3 visa process... I'm so worried please help! :crying: We have all the approval notices, I don't know if that would help, God I'm so freaking out!!!

Congrats on the marriage.

Relax - just go through all your luggage and carry-on's.

Perhaps they kept it at the POE? You could call them? You may of dropped it at the POE?

Did you have it when you went for the marriage license?

re-trace your steps...

Thank you for the reply...I'm positive I had it at home, in my purse...but I also have a knack for losing everything. Doi you think they would send me back to my country? I will keep looking, but i just want to know if there's a way around losing a passport...

Again, thank you for your reply, and got luck with your K1!!

Oh! Just relax.... take a deep breath  ...and RECALL  the things you did before it was lost.

Good Luck.

I do not think they would send you back home to you country. You came here on a K-1 visa to marry, and you did. Now you are filing for the AOS.

There really isn't a "way around" losing a passport. You will have to report it, and get some secondary means of ID for yourself. Perhaps you can contact your embassy and see what they can do (may even give you a new passport/temp one).

You have your birth certificate? They may want to see that. (plus any paperwork from your K-1 visa)

Thanks for the wishes, but I don't rely on luck, I rely on VJ guides!

Luck favors the prepared

Calm down. I think that if you can't find it, just contact Peru's department of Immigration (or their equivalent). I think that might be found here, http://www.digemin.gob.pe/ , but I can't be sure, as I only speak English.

Most countries have relatively painless processes for replacing a lost passport.

Do you still have your I-94? If you lost that too, I think you will need to file an I-102 to replace it. That will cost over $300 to file.

Hopefully you can find your documents though! Good luck!

No, you will not be sent back to start over again. If you don't find your passport, you'll need a new one and there are records of you having received the visa. The only critical AOS related item you're missing is the I-94 and they won't send you home for that.

Ok..... here is an old wives tale that my Mother used and I've used and it seems to work.

Don't think I'm a crazy nut case but try it.

While looking for your passport you must ask St. Anthony to help you find it.

So basically while looking you say

Please St. Anthony help me find my passport. And look everywhere....... and I mean everywhere possible.

Do you remember the last time you saw or used your passport.

Perhaps when you went to get your marriage license it was left there as to me that would probably be the last time you used it

If someone found the passport, I would imagine they would turn it in to the local police. Is there anything in/on the passport that would lead the finder or the police to you so they could return it (ie, your US address and/or phone #)? If not, you may want to consider contacting your local police and reporting it missing so they will know how to reach you if it is turned in to them.

Ditto for your country's US embassy, which is another place I would imagine someone might turn it in.

Best of luck!

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!
