Hello Every one,

We are Canadian citizens and recentely got USA immigration visa under (F4) . Visia is going to be expired in the middle of june. My both children are in school/University and they will not be free till the end of june.In order to save our visa we have to enter USA before June 15,2009.Our final destination will be PA . I was planning to enter USa through Coutts, Sweetgrass, Montaina border to complete our immigration process and to save our visa and come back and then finall we will be flying to USA in July for our final destination of PA to join our parents.I am looking for some advise for the that POE experience if some had. My other question is about our luggage/household. We will be moving our lots of stuff to USA. So when I go first time to make the entery to USA,Do I need to make the list of my luggage/Household to follow for Cusoms purpose?.Thanks.

Hi there,

Well we crossed the border at Coutts/Sweetgrass back in April last year. Not much to tell really. They had us park outside their new deluxe building - they took my Husband's passport and sealed envelope, we waited about 30 minutes, they came and took his fingerprint, input some more stuff in the computer and that was that.

Then we did the importation of our car. I gave him our letter of compliance from Ford, he had me fill in a form, he stamped it and signed it.

Took about an hour - hour and a half.

we crossed in houlton, maine and it sounds like the same as trailmix's experience. basically, they didn't know what to do. he went thru the entire brown envelope, just looking at it (yay at least i found out what was in it lol) and then took out the manual and they starred at it for almost an hour then decided to just stamp the visa after having two other people looking over it after him (i did hear him say to the other officer it was his first one he ever did). we had a uhaul, we had a list. so husband filled out a declaration form and he stapled the list to that. they never looked in the uhaul. also, imported a SUV, that seemed more familiar to them and we handed over the compliance letter, and the officer took care of everything and gave us the paperwork and sent us on our way.

Oh and you may already have found your answer to the luggage/household goods - yes, you do need to make a list, something along the lines of:

Box 1 - Kitchen goods and small appliances

Box 2 - CD's

Box 3 - Clothing

Just something like that - they probably won't even ask about your stuff - but if the do you will want to have it.

Thank you very much all of you . It really gave me bit of relief & satisfaction. May I ask about the luggage to follow list. as we will be moving our most of the household in July/August as my daughter& son are in schools and we have to wait till they complete their session. as visa is going to expire in june so we have no choice to make the entery now and then finally move after schools are done.So with us we will not be taking much of the stuff with us as we have to come back but we have huge household stuff to move after.

Thanks once agin.

If you go to the link I gave you in the 2nd post you will find the CBP answers for moving your belongings. Many of us have brought in our belongings in dribs and drabs. You have up to 10 years to move them.
