No but now I'd like to move on. I like where Aficionado is going with this!

His point seems to be that because he objects to threads discussing American History that we should change the subject to something he does want to talk about.

Why he can't just start another thread - or only participate in the ones that deal with subjects he actually wants to discuss is anyone's guess. The idea that people shouldn't talk about things that he doesn't like is pretty odd.

He's reacting uncomfortably with this part of history. There are a few here who like to relish on some historic events while telling others to stop dwelling over less convenient historic events. History as a whole is either relevant or it's not. I don't get this cafeteria attitude towards history.

Shut up Steve. Don't you realise that we have more pressing issues to contend with right now ;)

You shouldn't be thinking or talking about anything that doesn't have to do with getting out of the economic crisis!

It's not a question of 'either or'. Individuals have quite enough time to do both and, perhaps, learn from the past, as bizarre as that might sound. As for the idea that there is a requirement for you to 'tackle' today's issues, laughing, I am :).

Of course there is a requirement as discussion followed by actions is how problems are solved. This is not the UK Cleo where one simply expects the government to do everything for them.

History is important in recognizing why certain groups and cultures do not have financial parity with others. American Indians were treated much more harshly than African Americans, that's for sure. Now it is time to move forward as a unified nation.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

When I was a teenager and had exams coming up (this was in India, where exams are much more high stake than over here) my mom would flip out if I talked about anything other than my studies. You have exams in 4 months (yes, months ahead) and you're worried about that?!? OMFG!!!

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Is that supposed to mean something coming from a poster renowned for simply cutting others and their views down. In the stereotypical PD fashion you come to thread as soon as you see someone you don't like post and then rebut. What they post is basically irrelevant.

Do you have some sort of script setup where you are automatically notified of people posting from a list you have setup?

So now that Bush is gone we are going back to attacking history. I am sure religion will come up soon.

I don't expect you to take action BY, you are not an elected official - are you perhaps a vigilante?

As for my being a product of a nanny state - would that all of us were quite so productive

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It means exactly what I said.

I just think it bizarre that you seem to think it appropriate to tell others what they should be talking about, as if discussing a period of history implies that we have no interest in current events.

As with all things Boo-Yah it doesn't make sense without first having licked a couple of tabs of LSD.

First of all I am not telling anyone what to discuss. Second of all what I did state is that there are other more important things to discuss than dwelling on history. Considering the purpose of this thread was of a serious nature rather than a playful what did you last eat style thread.

Discussing ridiculous topics is nothing new for Steven. Hence why I rarely post under them.

But hey it is my fault for posting here. It's not as if I expected a serious discussion with either you, Steven or AJ. lol

Indeed, quite at fault. Really, you expected a serious discussion? After you suggested that 'dwelling' on the past is moronic in response to the OP's post?

If you change your expectations, I am sure you will be a much happier poster, good luck!

Sorry don't have time for disingenuous posters who camp here for the sole purpose of rebutting others.

Then cease and desist with your comments directed at my posts. I will not miss them, do you think I care or something?

I might be going out on a limb here - but someone who starts a thread about a historical subject might just want to talk about the history. Discussing the Indian Removal Act doesn't mean that people here are unaware of current events, nor does it equate to "dwelling".

You never left the playground did you...

I'm still struggling to understand what is wrong with "rebuttal". Perhaps the issue here is that you just can't take having your views challenged.
