According to our US Constitution, these words must be stated by the president elect verbatim.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

A whole 35 words to memorize, even I can do that with only one brain cell left.

"that I will execute the office of President to the United States faithfully." Roberts also refered to Obama as Senator Obama.

Not to long ago, wife asked, who is John G. Roberts Jr., our newly appointed chief justice I replied, head of the supreme court, and thinks torture is okay to gain information from alleged terrorists. Feel after these goofs, John G. Roberts should resign.

Some feel that Obama should have stopped Roberts and made him state the oath correctly. I feel that way as well. Constitution is very specific on this, don't want any president to change the words.

The oath is a formality, He was president at noon with or without the oath.

Assuming for a moment that the argument even holds water (it does not), Congress would have to be willing to act on it. And even if Congress were Republican controlled, you can pretty much bet that not a single one of them would be willing to do such a thing.

Obama's the President. Love him or hate him, it's not debatable.

Doesn't the constitution also say that even if he doesn't say the words he president elect becomes president at 12:00 noon on January 20th?

Is Barack Obama really President of the United States?

After all that fuss, is it possible that Barack Obama is not actually President of the United States?

It's a question being asked by constitutional experts - not to mention Fox News pundits and bloggers - after the man generally considered the finest orator of his generation fluffed his lines while reciting the oath of office on Capitol Hill yesterday.

Actually, the blame may well lie with John Roberts, the Chief Justice, whose job it was to guide Mr Obama through the 35-word oath prescribed by the constitution and decided to do it from memory in front of a live crowd of around 2 million people and a further billion or so following via television.

Interrupted by Mr Obama right at the start of the oath, Mr Roberts misplaced a single word so that the former Illinois senator vowed to "execute the Office of President of the United States faithfully" instead of, as he was meant to, "execute faithfully the Office of President of the United States".

According to Jack Beermann, a constitutional law scholar at Boston University, that single slip might be enough to invalidate Mr Obama's oath and he should take it again to be sure.

"It would take him 30 seconds, he can do it in private, it's not a big deal, and he ought to do it just to be safe," Mr Beermann told the San Francisco Chronicle. "It's an open question whether he's president until he takes the proper oath."

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

He can just say he said it again in private if what A.J posted is true, or even do it, who would know one way or another if that's all it takes? Talk about mountains out of ant hills. Even the moles would be embarrassed by this one...

Still, if it keeps fox and the wing nuts preoccupied, who am I to say 'let it go'.

it's only the constitution. ::shrugs::

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt
