Let me tell you about the situation I know. Of course my husband knows a few egyptians in our area. One in particular I wish I had a hide out for! His wife won't let him go anywhere by himself. I'm shocked he can even go to the bathroom alone! This is also the same woman that will go out for 5-8 hours at any hour of the day or night and when she's asked where she was her reply is "none of your business!" She claims never to have money, however she does have a well paying job. She steals money from her husband and won't even get him the daily necessities a person needs. My husband as well as others have gave this poor man money so he can just get what he needs. He wants out and wants out bad, but he doesn't want people to yell "greencard" like his wife already claims he's doing. I could go on and on about the stories! What's the poor guy to do? I've debated on having him stay with us, but I don't want the whack job knowing where he's at. Suggestion?

Oh my God! This is hysterical! Listen, I know of many, many, many women who live under these very same circumstances. It's their EGYPTIAN husbands who do this to them. In fact, it's pretty much standard procedure here, in Egypt.

They either aren't allowed to leave the house or, if they are allowed, they have to be accompanied by someone who their husband approves of.

Their husbands come and go as they please and there is NEVER any asking where he's been.

If she's ALLOWED to work, she will 1.) hand her money over to him, 2.) he will take her pay, or 3.) she HAS to help support the household.

My own EGYPTIAN husband tried to keep me in the house, telling me I wasn't allowed to leave the flat and, under no circumstances was I allowed to talk to "anybody" (I still remember his face when he said the word "anybody"). That edict stood until I realized he wasn't joking and he meant it. I took my freedom back instead of joining the "locked up" club.

No, I bet there's much more to this story. You asked for advice and here's mine: Let them lie in their own mess.

This is how I prevent my wife from leaving the house........

I tie her up with velvety ropes and put one of the gag-balls in her mouth......

But she can leave after sex :)

Sexist pig. :P:rofl:

I made the mistake once, in the heat of the argument, of telling my husband to leave "my" house. Wow was that a bad thing to say. How cruel of me? Here he was thousands of miles from his country, trying to adjust to a new culture and wife, and I was taking away the only thing that made him feel safe here. We joke about it now, but it still jerks at my heart that I said that.

As for this woman that won't let her husband out. I am curious. Is this just the story you hear, or have you witnessed it? As Jenn said there are 2 sides of the story. But if this is true it is dispicable.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

I seriously think the woman has a mental condition. I don't even want her in my home again. Her new thing now is calling my husband telling him that her husband is after me! Ok, seriously woman, try some other story because you sure are full of them! I just feel sorry for this guy you know? He just landed a great job and he doesn't want to have to go back to Egypt because his new marriage isn't working. Oh yes, I'll add too that she lied to him about many issues before his feet hit American soil.

May be she needs one of my gag-balls in her mouth.....

How does he allow her to treat him that way? I'd be getting the silent treatment like nobody's business if I pulled that #######. Then again why on earth is she doing this to him. I can't even begin to conceive of the fkd up mind that would do that to her husband.

He is pretty quiet around her for the most part till she pulls her #######. They're not even sleeping together now. He just wants out, but doesn't know how to do it the right way. I keep telling him to run before she causes a major problem!

those statements about being bound and gagged.....lol..funny

but on a more serious note...what I heard someone say about the women in Egypt..it is scary

but I want to add it is not only there...many places...even men you would never suspect may do that to their women

now here in the US...we women..we have a voice...but there is definitely some fear those men have instilled in those women to make them obey such extreme demands and keep quiet about it.

no one should have to live like that!!!

respecting your SO is one thing

being honest about what you are doing and who you are dealing with..ok...understandable

but having to live under a microscope and have no rights...WRONG

no one living under those kind of restrictions is going to last long

even people with sweet hearts and soft voices will eventually lose their minds

and demand respect and make themself heard NO MATTER WHAT THE COST

I'm sure she'll be reading this later. Good for you! I hope you're proud of what you've accomplished. Totally lost the trust of friends and family, trust which will never be earned back. You have put your husband in a terrible situation. A man that would have done anything in the world for you and you went and treat him like a dog! Never letting him go anywhere and if he does you gritch at him for hours. You on the other hand go out whenever the heck you want to and stay out for hours. Who are you with and who are you doing? People are on to you and all your schemes. One minute you love him, the next you say you hate him. A little bi-polar action going on here? Your husband is a man, not an animal! You had something so good and you have ruined it. Give yourself a pat on the back.

From being here a while and reading stories, we tend to hear about all the bad apples so to speak with MENA men. Now while I do agree there are many men that do use women for greencards, we don't hear many stories about all the "bad apple" women that treat their MENA spouses like #######. I've known a few here and just want to make a voice about it.

Is MENA and NAMBLA the same thing?

:bonk:

ok, i give up..what is NAMBLA?

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

There are defnitely some women who are very cut throat...and that's putting it nicely.

There are a lot of Arab men in our city, married to America/Mexican women. They have the same problems like what you described this man is having.

I don't know why they don't leave. Who cares what people say? I wouldn't stay in a miserable marriage because I'm worried people will scream "greencard." Eventually everyone will get over it and forget.

OMG. LOL.

This man sounds like he is being abused. Obviously. Isn't there some recourse for spousal immigrants in the case of abuse?
