Hi all,

Well we are so close to the end of the road here and glad our case is at the Embassy and the interview date is set. So we should be happy but unfortunately life is life and we got a real dose of it today. My wife has her interview the end of April and was planning her medical the first of April. Today i had a routine checkup with a cardiologist here in the Philippines because i am here to be with my wife for her visa process. I had 2 heart attacks back in 2004 and have had no problems since then. all my checkups have been fine until today. I had an Echo gram done and it shows a clot in my left ventricle. The doctor here advised my wife and I that i should get back to the states as soon as I can for treatment (i feel good) but the doctor is basing that off this test and doesn't have access to my total file. So I will be contacting my doctor back in the states Monday for his opinion. But my question is what are the chances of getting her interview asap based off this? I will go back no matter what because that is not an option for me to chance it and stay till end of April. My wife of course wants to leave right away with me to be there to support me in the needed surgery (probably open heart). Is there a possibility we can get it early and who do i call or what do i do? I am an emotional wreck right now and the wife is in worse shape than me as you can imagine.

MMW, so sorry to hear about your health issues. I really don't know the best way to deal with this. I would suggest possibly calling the consulate that will do the interview and ask them. Alternatively, you could call NVC to see where they might direct you. At this stage of the process and without the interview your wife might have difficulty accompanying you. I'm sure there will be someone else that can answer this better than I.

I hope all works out and I wish you a speedy recovery. (F)

Of course you are and I would feel the same way. When something like this happens everything else seems very insignificant. If you have a bit of time to work with try the consulate and see if you can get the interview moved up. Who knows maybe there have been changes in their schedule or perhaps they do leave some openings for emergency cases such as this. Also your MD in the US may be able to review the results and give you a clearer picture of where you stand. Of course your wife would want to be with you through the surgery (if that is what is needed) but the most important thing is for the two of you to be together and healthy. Keep us updated and I hope it all works out.

MMW, I would suggest calling both NVC and the USEM in Manila. They should be able to re-schedule it since it's urgent. Will be praying for your interview to be expedited and for your health too. Be strong, you're almost there!

Update, I called the Manila Embassy emergency number this morning and spoke to a CO about our situation and she told me yes they do emergency interviews in certain cases and that it would depend on our doctor's document as to the need for it. So she gave me the fax number for the visa unit and I faxed a copy of the results along with a cover letter officially requesting an early interview. I have to call them at 7:30 am Monday to speak with the visa unit directly and hopefully i get someone with a compassionate streak. Wish us luck! I'll update after I get done with the call. Also faxed the results to my regular heart doctor in the states and hopefully when he reviews the data he can give us some positive news.

OK seems the Embassy Manila does have a heart. I called them this morning as soon as they opened and they had received my fax and forwarded the request for the early interview to the scheduling unit already. They told me to call tomorrow morning to the 1-900-101-7878 and tell them how soon my wife can be in Manila to do her medical and interview to set the new date. So i guess Wednesday we will be going to Manila to do her Medical asap and then will stay there till the interview which hopefully can be done a week later. Pray for us to have this work out! And thanks all for being here for us. YOU ALL ROCK!!!

Just got off the phone with the scheduler at the Embassy, they did give us an earlier interview and my wife leaves in the morning for Manila to do her medical and will have the interview on April 3rd. We could have had 18th 19th or 20th of this month had we already had her medical but they said she needs that first and it takes 10 days from that to do an interview so the 3rd was the earliest we could get. At least it is not end of April anymore. I relayed the info to my doctor in the states so he can schedule me for exam as soon as we get to the states which will be asap after visa in hand. We will be waiting on the 3rd at the embassy for the visa instead of them mailing it to us. I couldn't believe they had dates still open in March. Wish we would have had the medical completed already.
