Hi,

Let me explain what my concern is.

I have been taking TEGRETOL ( carmabazepine) for the past year, to cure mood swings.

I am obviously not a danger to anyone, but can the physician at the medical exam think so?

Does that count as severe psychological troubles?

Could I fail the medical exam because of that?

Could I be denied the visa because of that?

What shoud I do??

I am totally freaking out so if anyone knows something, please help...

Thanks a lot!

I'm unsure of the answer to this, but keeping everything crossed that it doesn't cause a problem. At the moment, i've been prescribed Mirtazapine since the parting of myself and Pete......The whole situation of being apart so long had really lowered my mood, so the doctor prescribed me this. Surely they should understand that people at times need a little help regarding lifting their mood due to circumstances not within their control?!?!?!

I must admit though, i'm wanting to come off my medication as i feel that over the last 10 months it hasn't really done anything for me at all.

Hope someone has a better idea regarding your question.........Fingers crossed as i say!!!

Good Luck

I've read about other people on medications who got a note from the prescribing doctor as to what you are taking and why...something along the lines of "X takes XXXX to help control hormonal imbalance and does not pose a risk to anyone" yada yada. Could always ask your doctor to see if that is something s/he can do for you to take with you to the medical.

And that should do it? It won't slow down the process?

Thanks!

I'm not sure on the answer to your question, i'll probably end up having to go through the same process as yourself, but hope that what Dana has said is all we will need to do. I'm sure other VJ members will be able to help us regarding the question. Fingers crossed.

There may be a question on your medical questionnaire which will ask you if you are on any medication, or you maybe asked by the doctor. If so you should have it backed up by a letter from your doctor.

As far as I'm aware, this shouldn't cause any trouble for your visa. When talking about SEVERE PSYCHOLOGICAL TROUBLES, normally, diseases that cause a person to pose a threat to themselves or others is what they're talking about. So, NO, I wouldn't say that mood swings would count as severe psychological troubles unless they are severe enough to cause you to become dangerous. If you want to be sure, have the doctor who prescribed the medication to you write an explanation on their office stationary of why you are taking the medicine and whether or not it's because you are considered to have severe psychological troubles. Keep a copy of the letter for yourself and take the original to the medical exam and the interview in case it comes up.

We met in October 2007 and our immigration journey started in July 2008 when we filed for the I-129F Fiance Visa petition.

OK I'll defenitely do that.

Hopefully it won't cause any problems.

I know that mood swings aren't considered severe and that I am far from being dangerous :) , but I also know that they are extremely paranoid about pretty much anything or anyone that comes from outside the States... So that's why I want to be 100% sure that this won't be an issue.

Do you know if the physician is american, or from the home country of the beneficiary? Does the doctor's notice have to be in English?

Thanks to all of you for your helP!
