hi everyone,

I booked my ticked to fly in thru Detroit but read some pretty bad reviews about it on VJ so my other options are Cincinnati, New York (JFK), and Philladelphia. Can anyone advise what could be the least painful option for POE ???

thanks!

My wife had no problem with Detroit. She came to visit on her tourist visa when our I-130/I-129F was still in process, and had been told to be careful when coming in on tourist visa. But when she told the POE that she was here to visit her husband, he said she really should be staying for more than 2 weeks. Based on her experience during that visit, we purposely scheduled through Detroit for her permanent arrival.

I live about 2 hours north of detroit so my fiance has come thru detroit to visit 5 times and despite some questioning (how did you meet her? what do you do for a living? any plans to get married right now?) they've let him through without a problem.

I know some have said they had a hard time, but he got through a-ok and we're hoping it will be the same when he comes on the visa.

Also, I just had a friend who's fiance came through to get married here then they're going back to the UK and he told them, "i'm coming in to get married then i'm leaving." He didn't have any problems either.

Just our experiences. Good luck and congrats!

We had very smooth sailing at JFK. We went there for the temporary EAD, but I can't help thinking that a POE on one of the coasts is better.

Hold tight for a couple of wild generalizations: In NYC, folks in general have seen EVERYTHING. Nothing surprises them. They have been seeing interracial couples and unconventional-looking families, and handling tons of international flights to all over the world for a long, long time. It may be completely my own prejudice, but I can't help thinking the scales are balanced a little differently inland. OK, it IS my own prejudice. But you asked for an opinion, and that's my opinion...

Paul came into Cincy and besides the fact that I had to wait forever for him (he just hung out and got in the very end of the line- hee hee) it went well. He didn't have anything to complain about except for the fact he had to go through immigration in the first place! And trust me, Paul can complain! So we give Cincy a thumbs up!

Anyway, I agree w/your opinion--it's totally common sense!

Detroit has a bad reputation, but a K-1 entry is pretty straight forward. As long as you're not expecting the officers to be your new best friends....

Hey that was my POE and I'm a nice guy right....right.... guys... hello.... :)

Anyways, you're entering on a K1... as long as you're clean (didn't get that "unofficial" marriage ;)), there shouldn't be a problem... Very routine process.

Hey, they probably WERE your new best friends! Or old ones. You're the nicest. I was just wishing, as we were BBQing last night, that you two lived in a more civilized part of the country, like the West Coast. :P Would of been nice to have a beer together and jaw.

So, it's true that JFK is the only POE for a temp. EAD (this is the work authorization, correct?)

That's where we are thinking of going just for that reason.... what say you to this? Thanks! :)

Well....Joel came through Boston, and had such an easy time. Atlanta is one of the WORST POE's. At any rate, Boston seemed to be very easy.

JFK is the only one to *regularly* give the EA stamp altho other POEs sometimes do.

That particular EAD is very limited.. does the beneficiary have an understanding employer waiting for him/her? This is one plan worth fleshing out online, to make sure you understand.

:)

I'll just say it once, if that's ok.
