A Bit of Background:

After doing a bit of research, I've heard some people say 100% was needed and others say that 125% was needed for the I-134.

I don't want to take any chances. If the Fiance Visa is anything like the Tourist Visa, (Rejection= No Refund) I want to be for sure that money wondn't be any source of a problem for being approved. My fiance applied so he could visit and meet my parents, but it didn't happen most likely because they didn't believe he had enough money.

My yearly salary for my full time job is roughly $2,000 under the 125% poverty line. I figured that I only needed $45 per week to make up for the difference. I also do some waitressing. I figured out that I could work 7 hours there in addition to my full time job and I would be covered.

A Few Questions:

I've looked over the I-134 form.. I only see one blank to put in your job. So how would I list my other one?

What is considered a good amount of money to have in savings? I've just finished school full time and this is one of my first jobs. =/

Will I be frowned upon if I don't have any personal property or real estate?

thanks!!

One thing that will help you meet the guidelines is to have money in bank...I have heard that they consider it at a rate of 3 to 1 so if u need $2000 to meet minimum threshold u need $ 6000.00 in bank.

If you do not meet the requirments for poverty, you can get a co-sponsor like alot of us did.

moving to consulate forum where it is suggested to post all I-134 affidavit topics

FIRST...The guideline is 125% of poverty level unless you are active duty military and then it is 100%.

If you have a second job, report this in a separate sheet attachment to the I-134. Be sure to use a separate sheet for each additional answer, give the names of petitioner and beneficiary, the case number and whcih question you are answering at the top of the sheet.

You are nor required to have ANY money in savings. BUT any moeny you have in savings will be considered an "asset" and credited to you at a rate of $1 for every $5 in assets. If you are $2,000 short of the 125% level you will need $10,000 minimum in "assets" to offset this.

Now, before you jump for too much joy, bear in mind the poverty levels will be adjusted UP on March 1, 2009 and the consulates will begin using the new poverty guideline levels on April 1, 2009 for all K-1 interviews. The poverty level is adjusted up based on the cost of living index every year and for 2008 the cost of living index was up quite a bit due to oil prices and food prices. After April 1, expect the 125% level to be 4.5-5% more than it is now. These new numbers will not be available until after March 1.

As If I weren't stressing out enough before.... I just want to SCREAM! I've been trying to do everything the right way... but they just make it so hard! No wonder so many people enter our country illegaly.

Does a 401K count as savings? Can it be listed? Thanks
