Colin Powell on Today's Event: "The America we remember is back again."

Former President Bush's Secretary of State had some insights on today's historic events that are worth reading.

Colin Powell, the former Bush administration Secretary of State and now head of America's Promise, called Barack Obama's election to the nation's highest office a "reaffirmation of American principles values that will help us overcome some of the difficulties of recent years with respect to the attitude of the world toward us."

Speaking with CBS News Managing Editor Katie Couric, Powell said America's prestige abroad has improved since Mr. Obama won a decisive victory over Senator John McCain.

"I think it has really, really been an remarkable event in terms of getting everybody to stand back and say, look at what we have seen here in America," Powell said.

"The America we remember is back again."

Colin Powell was an outstanding general & was an excellent politician as well, except for the WMD presentation. Bush used Powell's credibility to make the case for WMDs in Iraq & pretty much Powell took one for the team. I have no doubt that if Powell could make that choice again he would have told W to find another fall guy.

The endless backstabbing and fingerpointing in DC? Happy days are here again unless you've lost your job, the value of your house remains and can't retire.

The endless backstabbing and fingerpointing in DC? Happy days are here again unless you've lost your job, the value of your house remains and can't retire.

Well Bush left a pretty big mess & it will take a while (years vs months) to fix. As for Powell you're right... he didn't accomplish that much as Secretary of State (except for being the fall guy for the WMD presentation). I guess the best thing he did as Secretary of State is be the only person on Bush's staff who wasn't a yes man or kool-aid drinker.
