I have not interviewed for nursing program but for my physical Therapy MPT i was asked a lot of questions about my experience, my background, why i chose Physical Therapy.

basically be open and honest be yourself. Smile, sit up with a good posture, maintain eye contact and be confident with a touch of humility.

Be prepared with nay and all rferences, paper work ect.. that you will be asked for. Anytjhing you sent in with your application, you should have copies on hand with you just in case they are referred to.

Good luck!

:) good luck :)

My nursing school asked me why I wanted to be a nurse. They also made me write a short essay on how becoming a nurse would effect me...

I suggest you say something about caring for people, more than making money. Because honestly, nurses are underpaid for the work that we do. Being responsible, and able to deal with stress in healthy manners is key. Really, it was like a standard interview, you have to dress professionally, sit in a composed manner, make good eye contact, and don't forget to breathe. Be ready to answer some hard questions about what are your good qualities and what are your 'areas for improvement'. I like to describe them that way. ;) I could go on, but I think you've got the idea.

Peace,

Mariah

Gee, in going in with my kids, only thing of interest to the colleges or tech schools, was there GPA from high school, and most important, how are you going to pay for it. Have this strange idea, the latter part is why my kids wanted me along, even with a GPA of 2.998 was accepted where 3.0 was the minimum, we have make up courses, as long as you can pay for it.

Just be nice and be yourself, ha, and know how you are going to pay for it. Good to have a GPA of 4.0, one daughter had that, and got a scholarship that helped. She was very quiet and even timid. Daughter-in-law was accepted into pharmaceutical school with a GPA of 4.0, but had a rich uncle that really helped, impossible to get loans or grants.

Nursing is a very good choice, can't convince my step daughter of that, neither can her mother, local hospital is currently looking for 40 nurses, always looking for nurses. For some strange reason, they work three 12 hours shifts a week, but gives four days off to get into trouble. Normally, the under paid nurses aids do all the dirty work. Have to watch your patients, and if problems arise, have to know how to scream for a doctor. That is just an outsiders view.

While it was 30 years ago when I went for my nursing school interview, a lot of the questions really were about myself. Hobbies, interests, a lot sounded inane, however I think they were getting to character, integrity, morals, values etc. Definitely they asked questions about my interest in nursing and why I thought I'd make a good one.

I agree with Len, who's had great experience in interviewing candidates and as she says sitting on scholorship boards...be yourself, and if you don't know the answer to a question, be honest and say you don't know, but that you're eager to learn.

The best of luck HannahP! (F) Follow up and let us know how it goes!
