Hi all!

I am new to this forum, I have applied for my wife's K-3 petition. My NOA1 date is December 1st 2008, I am wondering approximately how long will it take for my wife to get to the interview? She lives in Karachi Pakistan. Also, what kinds of questions do they ask during the interview? I would greatly appreciate your responses.

The way things are now you should consider doing the CR-1 instead of the K3.

He's already applied for the K3.

Desi,

The best thing to do is to check out the "timelines" function up top.

Most of the approvals coming out for K3's lately have been NOA1 dates of April-June/July. That is for the Vermont Service Center.

California is MUCH faster.

I forgot to add, that after the USCIS approval, the K3 will be at the NVC for a few weeks(approximate). Then, depending on the consulate(embassy)..they will usually schedule interviews a couple months out. So figure 60-90 days from the NOA2? I think thats a safe assumption. :)

Good Luck!

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Lisa and all,

Thanks for the replies. So this means I can safely assume that my wife will have the interview by the end of August 2009?

Doesn't matter if he already applied for K3. He can still go with the CR-1!!

CR-1 is a WAY better visa.

To start CRs are immigrant visas and receive their GC and SS card in the mail shortly after arriving in the US.

No need to go thru the $1010 cost, stress and hassle of doing the AOS.

No need another interview or do biometrics.

Not having a SS card can prevent one doing a lot of things such as get drivers license, joint bank accounts etc.

K3s are nonimmigrant visas and have to go thru AOS. It can take a LONG time to get GC. Can be denied and deported also. Rare but the chance is still there.

If the relationship or petitioner goes “belly up” before the beneficiary has GC in hand they stand an excellent chance of being deported.

At this time if done properly it only takes about a month longer to do the CR-1 or IR-1.

The CR-1 recipient can almost immediately work, get drivers license, joint bank accounts, and anything else where a GC and SS card are required .

PLus can return home without waiting for AP or GC in case of emergency!

K3 visas have to wait at about 3 months for EAD so they can get a SSN.

Petitoner has to qualify financially at the interview and then a few months later at the AOS. Some petitioners have been getting laid off due to the economy causing more AOS problems.

CR/IR only does so once at NVC.

No, he hasn't applied for anything. Since he mentioned "petition" singular, I take it only the I-130 has been filed so far. If so, that would result in the CR1 visa, not the K3. I too recommend not filing the I-129F for spouse and simply continuing with the I-130 through to the CR1 visa.

I would check timelines specific to Islamabad. An August interview date seems possible but not something on which I'd base any future plans.

That is very fast. I guess being in Islamabad helps and also California service center is faster than VSC. My wife and I will be lucky if she gets the visa in 8 months. Any idea what kinds of questions did they ask? What to take with you to the interview? Thanks

I have applied for I-129F (K-3) after applying for I-130 Petition. Many people are recommending CR1 route, I can understand why. Both ways it would not be fast. Unfortunately I have already applied for I-129F.

Doesn't matter! You can still go with both the K3 and CR-1. Just get ready to work on the I-130. Use Ling Che shorts.

They are recomending it because it is an "easier" visa to start with. The CR1 does not require the Adjustment of status like the k3 does once your wife gets here. If the USCIS approves both of your petitions at once, you can follow the i-130(CR1) through NVC and apply for the CR1, or you can choose to keep the k3 and have your wife interview for that. does that make sense? heh

It can take a little bit longer for reunion, but in many peoples opinions' it is worth it.

We personally chose the k3.

Good Luck
