Biometrics -- Be Prepared for This!

The wife had her biometrics appointment today (Jan. 20). Her married name on the appointment letter and her maiden name in her passport didn't match, and this needed to be resolved. Fortunately, I have had her carry a copy of our marriage certificate with her (everywhere she goes); she showed this, and things proceeded smoothly thereafter.

We live only 6 miles from the USCIS ASC (Application Support Center), so she could have gone home and come back with the certificate, if necessary; however, other VJers may have far longer distances to travel. Please consider our experience as something that could happen to you, si man.

And, perhaps even better, being pinned as a stand-alone thread. I would not have known to follow the procedure, and its possible necessity is not mentioned in the USCIS invitation letter. We were serendipitously bailed out by my insistence that the wife carry every possible paper with her at all times -- overkill most of the time, perhaps, yet well worth it in this instance.

When a newly wed wife changes her name on one document and not another, she should carry a copy of her marriage certificate regardless of whether she is going through immigration or not. It is needed for changes to bank accounts, SS etc etc...

Si, man. My fear is always a "police stop," for any reason or at random. Everyone is so frustrated about not being able to solve "illegal immigration" that they may take it out on the lawful-but-not-yet-legal.

nah, not a day trip but did pull the kiddy out of school.... we went back the next day... probably better anyway... we were looking at a 2+ hour wait on the first day and less than 15 minutes the following day...
