Well I didn't get to see all of the speech, but I did get the chance to see him take the oath....I think he was a little nervous as he messed it up a few times, by cutting off the person giving the oath and having to have a part of it repeated to him as he couldn't recite it. I have seen him speak in other times, and he is a very good speaker I just hope he will be able to deliver on his promises even during this tough situtation he is inheriting.

From what was reported on our local talk show.The person giving the oath screwed up several times and obama knew the oath and waited for that person to give it correctly

I'm just amazed of how different this inauguration is compared to the one 8 years ago, where a lot of Americans felt robbed and this country was divided. I was taking a look at pictures of Bush's motorcade in 2001 and there were tons of protesters on the streets.

We didn't start the millennium with the right foot (well we did but Bush ended up "winning"), now things hopefully will change and the world will look at the US as an example, not as the dictator it became under the last administration.

Yeah he lifted a box during the move, has to spend 2 days in the chair. I heard it was a shoe box, but confirmation of those reports are yet to be confirmed!

They do when said in the right place, at the right time, by the right person.

In most cases though - its a crapshoot, and slick speeches are pretty par for the course in politics.

Tony Blair got into Number 10 through rhetoric (Blair was all about "New Dawns" if I remember rightly), in much the same way that Obama seems to have been elected on the back of his "Change" message (which I still find appallingly naive) and the massive resentment towards Bush.

Well, if the Inauguration isn't the right time for a slick speech, when is?

And I hated Tony Blair. Although I can see similarities between the two of them, and what they promise, I do think that personality wise they differ quite substantially. I can't see Obama being a lap dog to anyone.

I don't dispute that - I just find it hard to take inspiration from an event where the inspiration is expected and assumed.

Perhaps I just object to the way that this country does its political business - with massive fanfares and celebration. It all seems very contrived.

Well, they don't have a Royal Family, so I say let them have the huge inauguration!

That's part of what I don't get. Fine a president is elected, so that is a difference of course but why bring all the pomp and circumstance in to the thing? Wasted money in this economy. Also, as I mentioned in the other thread, to me, all this investment in the actions/opinions of one man surely points to an imbalance of power. I didn't think the US wanted a dictatorship...

Correct!!!! Obama was a constitutional law professor.....he knows it inside out..that passage was taken from that document.....the CHIEF SUPREME COURT JUSTICE is the one who screwed it up......which is kind of scarey when you think about about it
