Hi! I'm Jay and my fiancee is Thi, we are new visa journey members! I have been lurking and reading for awhile now and just want to say thank you for this great site! We are also at Packet 3 stage with some of the others on here and have a question about the DS-230 form.

It says, In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States. Thi doesn't officially work, although she takes care of animals on her families ranch - on the G-325 we put occupation: Rancher - because we didn't know what else to say. We have no idea what job (if any) she will work in the U.S. I don't know if intending to work as a "rancher" in the U.S. is going to fly!

How did you guys handle this question? :star:

Thanks!!

I answered the question: "Yes, with work authorization". I didn't give any specifics about a profession.

If you haven't already, I suggest going to the Example Forms section. The link is on the navigation bar at the top of the page. It was a big help for me when I had questions like this.

Good luck!

We put "Student", since Tuyen plans on school when she gets here.

We also put "Not Applicable" for Current Occupation on the G325.

Welcome to VJ and goodluck in your journey. I'm fairly new here myself and I'm quite nosy......

If she plans on being your housewife for now, then the term "domestic engineer, domestic admistrator/coordinator" comes to mind. In fact, that pretty much sums up what she does in Vietname also. Goodluck.

Steve

The DS-230 is supposed to be for non-immigrant visas. Technically, the K-1 and K-3 visas are non-immigrant visas. However, everyone who applies for these visas is an intending immigrant, even though they enter the U.S. on what is a non-immigrant visa. Therefore, some of the questions on the DS-230 seem very strange. We put "N/A" for the strange questions. Look at the example forms for other possible answers you might put instead. Good luck to you.

whatever you write is fine. it isn't an issue to worry about. just as long as she remembers her answer should they ask again.

This is the best reply. We did not find it important. Its probably used by some statistics gathering by the govt. Best wishes. This is a great place to get good info
