Which of the documents included in the I-129F package needs to be original.

Ok looking at the step by step guide on visajourney here's what I've got. Which of them needs to be original and which can be copies and which need to be certified.

1. Payment (I have an original cheque) : No questions here.

2. Cover letter (I'll have a scanned copy of the signed document) : Can I just use a copy of this one?

3. I-129F : Printed and signed original (I will make a copy before I send off).

4. Declaration of how we met (I have a scanned copy).

5. Statements of intent, I have originals.

6. Proof of having met (I have some stubbs, copies of passport sections with entry to ports and visas).

7. G-325A : I have the originals.

8. Have originals of the passport photos.

9. G-325A : I have the originals to submit.

10. Have original passport photos.

11. Just a copy of the front and back of the birth certificate.

Which of these needs to be original/can be copies or need to be certified (certification probably most important).

Thanks!

All can be regular photocopies of original documents or of the certified documents unless the form instructions specifically indicate original......

For me it was the signed I-129F & signed Statement(s) of Intent

Anything that is signed by your or your fiance for the K-1 has to be the original signed document. Otherwise, you will get an RFE saying that you have to resubmit papers with original signatures in black/blue pen ink. This is because they don't want people just cutting and pasting photos of signatures onto documents. Postage is gonna be kinda expensive, but it will be even more expensive if you get an RFE and have to send everything again.

I noticed that you mentioned passport photos twice on your list...Just in case, You only need one picture of you and one picture of your fiance. They are to be 'passport style' but not necessarily the actual photos used for your passports. The guidelines for those pictures just say that you should have a light plain background (preferably white/offwhite), face centered/recognizable (it should look similar to the photo on your passport/drivers license), and printed on high gloss photo paper...

Don't forget to include copies of your visa stamps from your visits to your fiance and copies of your boarding passes (etc.), make sure the birth certificate you are making copies of is the ORIGINAL with the imprinted seal on it, any pictures of you and your fiance together can be printed on regular printer paper with 4-6 pictures per page...

Back to your original question though, PLEASE don't send photocopies of signed documents because you will most certainly receive an RFE telling you to do it all over, this time with the papers containing original signatures....Good luck :)

If you are the US Citizen filing the petition, you would have an original cover letter signed by you. So, I don't understand why you've indicated a scanned copy.

1. original :)

2. Can be copy, but why not send original?

3. original, does NOT need to be certified

4. copy is OK, does not need to be signed, it is a supplemntal answer to question 18 of the I-129f

5. original

6. copies

7. original (with 3 copies)

8. originals of course

9. repeat of 7?

10. repeat of 8?

11. copies

Any translations need to be "certified" (notarized) that they are "true and correct" translations and the translator needs to state he/she is proficient in the use of both languages. There is no such thing, per se, as a "certified translation" it is just a translation, the translator certifies, with thier statement, it is correct, that is all. You or our fiancee can due the translations yourself if your are comfortable "certifying" you own translations. The only other thing which must be notarized in the K-1 process is the I-134 for the interview

Make copies for yourself of EVERYTHING you ever send to USCIS, a consulate or for the AOS process. Try to keep things in order, you will need them at various points and get LOTS of passport photos, you will need about a dozen or so before the process is finished.

Thanks!

I'm putting together everything my U.S. Fiancee is in another city and I'm staying with her parents on a visitors visa. I'll mail it from here, but I'm putting everything together.

I'm sending it all to her now to finish.
