Hello!

My husband is the USC and i'm a french citizen still living in France. We're about to file for a CR-1 spouse visa, and he'll be deployed this spring and back at the beginning of 2010. This is when i'll finally be able to move to the US to live with him.

We have almost all the paperwork planned and/or ready, thanks to VJ and NVC Lingche shortcuts.

BUT what about the choice of agent?

Or any other piece of paperwork my husband needs to sign/receive..??

Can i manage the paperwork alone?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Caroline

I think you would be able to manage the forms yourself. There are very few forms that are signed by the petitioner, but you could make sure that you have those before he is deployed.

the NVC sends everything to both the Agent and the Beneficiary. It may take a bit longer to reach you in France but they do send everthing to both.

You'll need to have your husband's tax transcripts, W2, pay stub and employment letter.

Hope this helps some...Best of Luck with your journey.

If it's any help I did all the forms for our petition myself as my fiance is overseas. I just let him know what he needed to sign etc.

I strongly suggest your husband contacts the USCIS line for military 1-877-CIS-4MIL (1-877-247-4645) so you can go through the process just a little bit faster.

You can manage all the paperwork, it's just getting him to sign the paperwork (I-864) later in the process.

Best of luck on your journey!

My husband is already deployed and I'm doing all the paperwork and it's not a big problem. He does need to sign some forms but he just fills out everything BEFORE they ask for it and sends it to me. Let me know if I can help, just PM me.

And yes we did just get our expedite approved!! I'm sooooo excited!

He can also request help from JAG, the legal office, where he is currently stationed. It would be nice to get as far through the process as possible before he deploys. I fully agree with the expedite. Get his family to help, if possible.

Thank you all for your answers and advice!

We got our NOA1 on feb 2nd and got it in the mail on the 7th at his wyoming address. My husband is in training in OK, so one of his friends checked his mail for him and called him today.

We applied for an expedite right away and will know if it's approved or not on saturday (14th)!!

We're really excited as he's getting deployed in april, and we would have some time together before he leaves!

We don't know if it's going to be approved or not.. but

My husband called the military helpline, and i was able to listen as the call was on speakerphone, and i was on skype.

The first lady asked a few screening questions regarding expediting requirements. The next lady sounded human, and just asked about his deployment, no id, no orders to provide.. She just checked information about our case, took his email address and phone number. And she asked how we met!

So what are the next steps? NVC stuff is pretty ready to go already.. Can i do something else? vaccine requirements? ...?

It's pretty much the same we've been doing right now. My hubby is stationed in OK actually he's in Iraq right now though.

Just get your NVC stuff ready and make sure you make an email with a request for expedite with them too. Just because they approved it at USCIS doesn't mean that NVC expedites it too unfortunately. Just PM me if you have any questions okay?

Oh and just so you know USCIS never told us they approved our expedite. We didn't hear from them at all actually! I called to ask why we hadn't heard from them and the lady said our case was approved a week ago and was at NVC now... go figure!

I would not count on JAG too much. Maybe they help with this on some bases, but in our case, JAG was only available for immigration assistance if the immigrant IS the soldier.

But in general, unless there is a particular issue that needs special attention, you should be able to manage the paperwork. This Forum is also a great help, so if you have any questions, do not hesitate to pose them. And make sure to consult the USCIS website so you always have the latest version of the Forms you will be filling out. Good luck and I hope your husband has a safe deployment (mine will be deploying soon too).
