Explanation of how we met

I know this has probably been discussed here before, but it's hard to find any keywords... How detailed should the explanation on "how we met" be? This is in regards to I-129F : Part B, Question 18 which in VisaJourney guide has its own line in instructions. Is it really that important to describe it in detail? Can't I just write 'we met each other online and then met in person in <place> and started dating since <date>" ?

Many use the space provided on the form. To search use the keywords "question 18".

and I am a firm believer in "love story" not required. Accurate, simple and factual is all that is needed.

I agree with the comments above about being accurate, etc.. I would just add that there is a "more is better" group on VJ that will tell you to send all kinds of stuff. We did send pictures of us together in Ukraine, and pics of me with Vika and her family. Vika brought about three binders of stuff to the interview that was (as I warned) completely useless. We had zero questions and were approved in 90 seconds. The guidelines or regs just call for substantive proof that you have 1) met during the past two years, and 2) that you intend to marry within 90 days of SO's arrival in the US (for a K-1). That is all the USCIS and embassy in Ukraine are looking for.

Just remember that the "qualification" for the PETITION is that you have met face to face at least one time in the last two years. Our answer was a short, less than one page, description of our first meeting. It need not be long and romantic. Of course, more is better than not enough. I cannot imagine you would need more than one page. Be sure, when you attach the letter, you include a heading with your name, her name, and that it is answer to question 18. If you must attach other answers, use a separate page for each answer.

The description you give of your meeting, in this post, should be sufficient. You should also attach travel documents to support your claim of when you met in person. They do NOT accept airline itineraries or ticket receipts. They want boarding passes and passport stamps. Include at least one photo of the two of you together and that should be plenty.

Short and simple is best as far as I'm concerned. As posted above 'no love story required'... I didn't use a supplemental on my I-129F at all. My explanation consisted of the month and year we met on which site online, how we kept in daily contact, month and year I flew to Morocco and met him in person, where I stayed while I was visiting, and my return month and year. End of story. They aren't asking when you fell in love and how it happened, just how you MET. :) All you're proving with the your I-129F petition is that you've met your fiance. The Consulate's job is to investigate your love story and the validity of your relationship.

We met in October 2007 and our immigration journey started in July 2008 when we filed for the I-129F Fiance Visa petition.

I am from the more is better crowd. It was a signed 1 page supplement letter that contained 1 paragraph giving detail how and when we met.

It could have been totally worthless but I have lots of free time and I wanted to do everything possible to deter an RFE. For me the 5 minutes it took was time well spent.

Also kept it honest and brief. I knew at our embassy that they were going to ask for a timeline of the relationship and there I would need to bring more to the table. 129f is for the USCIS and they wanted to be sure that you met the guidlines to apply for the visa in the first place and the requirement for that was did you meet in the last two years. Keep it brief and simple. Flood them with proof of relationship for the embassy.

So, as you can see, there is absolutely no single recipe for success. The experience of those who interviewed in Ukraine is probably most relevant to you, but you won't hurt yourself by doing more either. We all wish you luck  Feel free to PM us with specifics too.
