I dont use calling cards I call from home if he has a BT landline you call 08448613535 and then the number, it shows up on the bill at £0.01 a minute which is really good, hope this helps

Some calling cards offer a great rate but beware they sometimes charge a connection fee

The best option is skype which you download to your pc and skype to skype calls are free, shame my fiance is not on line at home yet

Yeah Skype would be better, free to download and free to chat PC to PC. They charge to call a phone from a PC but it's still pretty cheap.

or can get an international calling card from Post Office.

£10 card gets 400minutes, you only have to pay then for a regular london call.

Has he got SKY TV? If so, he might want to sign up for their "SKY Talk", whereby you pay £5-a-month, and you get all-inclusive calls to all UK landlines, and 20 countries, inclusing the USA. And that includes US cellphones too, because their STD codes are the same as the landlines.

I pay £7.99 a month with SKYPE to go and that gives me a UK no to call and then transfers me to any US cell phone or landline for the cost of a UK local call.

well if his parents are with BT he can use the access number and you dont have to change a thing and then on the bill they will know exactly how much he owes for the calls and it is not a lot at £0.01 a minute

I used nomi-phone for a long time in the UK; was always very pleased with rates and service (though haven't used them for a while so am not sure how they stack up now)

in fact, for about six months just after I moved to London, they had a 'free calls to the US all weekend' offer, which I credit with getting my now-husband and I together, so they're perhaps even more special than I give them credit for :D

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

  • 2 weeks later...

i use nomi-call africa. Its free to call U.S from G.M.T 8pm tm 8am calling a 0208******* it cost £3.00 and it will only charge £0.20p a day service charge so u r able to call us for hours for 1 month free. Its cheap if u have free local minutes on your mobile or landline.

The best one I found to use is the Royal Mail phonecard. I think they can be purchased almost anywhere... my husband used to get them from Tesco or Asda I think.

I don't know if they are still sold though, it was over 4 years ago I/my spouse used one

You say his parents won't let him modify the phone service, which is fine but do either or (preferably) both of you have high-speed internet available? If the answer is yes, then definitely use Skype.

If only one of you has the broadband internet, that person installs Skype and buys some 'SkypeOut' credit (with Paypal - it doesn't go on the phone bill) and they can then phone the other person overseas for about 1.2p/2.1c per minute (beware - calls to UK mobiles are more). Skype is a free-to-install program for your computer that you use with headphones and a mic - it doesn't require changing your home phone service in any way.

Ideally though, if both of you have high-speed internet access, you can both install Skype and speak for free as much as you want. You can also add a webcam at each end and have video calling (also free).

You'll find a lot of Skype evangelists here because it's oh-so-good for people separated by immigration matters - I personally went to my K-1 interview with reams of Skype call log printouts
