Hey all. I have a couple of questions concerning the Packet 3. First of all is the Social Insurance Number in Canada, the number they are asking for on the DS 156 question 14 as the National Identification number?

Also, in the letter packet 3 it states to send back the DS 230 immediately THEN gather the info for the checklist and send it in. My understanding is that most of you sent both of these at the same time. So either way is okay to do?

Oh and one more thing. My fiance was completing the first copy of the DS 156 and partially signed his name because he forgot he wasn't supposed to sign. Will they give him another to complete at the interview or just have him finish signing it once he's there? I know several people have said they HATE any downloaded forms and only want the ones directly from their office.

Thanks for any help you can give.

yes, this is where you would write in the SIN.

I was prepared and had everything ready (I was able to go have my medical completed before Packet 3 arrived, but I waited until I had my case number from NVC), so when Package 3 arrived, I filled out the forms ASAP and sent them back the next morning. You can wait and send in the checklist after the DS-230, but Montreal won't put you into the queue to get an appointment date until they receive the completed checklist.

Oh and one more thing. Here's my humble advice. take the partially signed form to the interview. They will either let your fiance resign that form, or give him another one to fill out and sign then and there. They do have a reputation of not being pleased when people use downloaded forms, so I'd just take the one you have and go from there.

Best wishes! :)
