Hi,

Can anyone help me. I will get married to a Moroccan national in Morocco later this year. She needs a Certificate of Celebacy. She is not a virgin and she doesn't want to expose this to her family. Is there anyway past this????

Thanks

I have never heard anyone mention this before.

My only guess as to why they would ask for this is one of two reasons. One is that they ask for it in order to put stipulations in the marriage contract (there was recently a "North African" man in France who was awarded by a French judge, the return of the bride's dowry, for breach of contract, because she was not a virgin). My second guess would be a religious reason. There is a passage in the Quran (I can look for it later) that says an adulterer only marries and adulteress and a chaste man only marries a chaste woman, so on and so forth. Perhaps that is why they ask for it???

Actually, I did a google search...it seems like it's just a certificate to prove you're not still married, I think

There are a few countries that require them. I don't think it has to do with actual celibacy at all.

Celibacy and virginity are two seperate states.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Uh...I think you're confusing this with the certificate that says she is single and not married - all Moroccans getting a K-1 have to get this paper.

What star said is exactly right. You need this paper - it doesn't not state whether or not one is a virgin, but whether or not one is "eligible for marriage" - meaning NOT CURRENTLY MARRIED TO SOMEONE ELSE.

Sorry I can not contain my giggles :lol::rofl::lol::rofl::lol:

Of course it is necessary to confirm that a person is not married!!

Can you imagine if it were used to prove virginity??? That would definately be an interesting examination :blink::blink:

Star is correct, this is needed to prove that she is free to marry. If you, the USC, has been divorced or widowed, you will need the marriage license and divorce decree/death certificate. If I remember correctly you will need to go to the consulate to receive an affidavit of eligibility to marry as well once you get to Morocco. It's been a long time for me however. I might have forgotten, or things might have changed.

This certificate is certainly not needed for the I-130 or the I-129f.

ETA that they will probably ask you if you and your fiance have had...er...relations with each other.

But if they do ask, they won't run and tell her family
