Venezuela's Chavez says Obama has "stench" of Bush

Say it isn't so. I thought the whole world was enthralled with the Obama "cult of personality". Apparently Chavez didn't get the memo.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

While I appreciate that there are leaders out there who are happy to give the often deserving middle finger to the US, that joker is pretty much irrelevant.

Just little annoying things, like reusing old photo in passports, saying they are obsolete, then having to buy a new passport cover, only thing, is they are only available on the black market for 900 bucks. Then his airport tax to leave, an extra 165 bucks. Really strange banks, can take four hours to make a deposit. Over a week to open a savings account. Can bring money in, they love US bucks, but can't take money out. Every item that is imported has a different tariff rate. Needed some AC receptacles, a mixture of European and US receptacles are use, 39 cents here, almost six bucks each there. Roads are terrible, police are terrible and corrupt, has a post office, but useless, lose about 99.9% of the mail. Water isn't safe to drink and not even available half the time. Chavez took over all the utilities and put his own guys in charge, electrical surges are terrible, and man, did they screw up the internet, and installing lots of blocking software.

A simple notary here you can have done free at any bank takes hours and cost over a hundred bucks. Their tribunal is always on strike delaying simple court cases. Chavezs' army looks like a boy scout troop, but guess he is doing something about that now with Russian purchases. And it's my guess that about 70% of the population is living in severe poverty.

With him taking over cable TV, can only watch him on half the channels, any newspaper or TV station that says negative things about him is history. The middle class is living in a state of fear, getting next to impossible to find a job. Car parts are outrageous as are any kind of tool. But the country is beautiful with an ideal climate, central heating and air conditioning systems are not even needed. Wife lived there for 23 years, place is going to hell under Chavez. His trucks with red shirt guys block traffic and offer loud music and free beer. People that live in the suburbs have to leave at 5:00 am to be at work at 9:00 am due to traffic jams and don't get home after 8:00 PM, only living 19 miles from town, what a crazy life.

I am tired of hearing about this idiot

Ha, then turn off your radio and TV set and don't read posts about it. Wife has one son there, I want to get him out, and just forget about her property, but she worked hard for years to buy it and pay it off and hate to lose it. Showed her my divorce settlement on how badly I was screwed, pay it off and move on has become my philosophy. Her actual home country is Colombia where the majority of her family resides, but coming back from there isn't so hot either, treated like a drug dealer by our immigration. But at least, our relations with Colombia are improving.

When I go down there, meet families, good hard working people struggling to earn a living, just like you and me. We are the majority, and even seeing my own country going to hell due to poor leadership.

Do we really need leaders? More of a pain in the a$$ than what they are worth.

I think you put it at about 70% poverty there... when I went years ago (before Chavez) it seemed like it was 90% so perhaps some folks have improved. Not to give that monkey man any extra credit, of course. Last I checked those that are spearheading the opposition are in those upper crusts of wealth there that stand to lose more profits than actually help their own people.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Not according to my wife and her friends, educated people that work hard, most of them have lost their jobs or had to take major cuts in pay. Been all downhill with Chavez, now, his lifestyle has greatly improved, certainly not setting a very good example.

This guy is scary. He is setting himself to be the next So American dictator. He has already shut opposition newspapers and TV stations. He keeps trying to bend the law so he can run gain for pres. This guy will be the next president for life...another Robert Mugabe, or another Castro (his idol).

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I wonder if those folks lost their jobs or took paycuts in employers that were exactly part of the upper echelons of society. Not making excuses for it at all but think about it. And do remember that as insignificant as Chavez may be on the world stage, the world stage includes Venezuela- so the global economy influences them as well. Including all the global job losses and wage cuts we see all around.

What I clearly see is the oligarch class whining a lot more about not making 1000% profit in their chosen sector anymore. Now they have a middleman called Chavez that's skimming 10% of that for his own movement. How common this is is Latin America. The difference is that in pre-Chavez days, the country was ruled by a member of that same oligarch class.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
