hello all

i am in america on IR1 visa , i need to know how much time does it take to get welcome letter , and one thing i asked from the immigration officer that sir u havent stamped alien number on my passport and he told me and looked at my visa and point towards my registration number and said its your alien number sir and when i ask about my green card he told me it will take couple of weeks to get your green card , i just signed one paper and they took finger print and thats it i was ready to leave to next flight i need to know can i work here with my visa or do i need to wait for my green card i hope i will hear from some one soon
