Hi,

Just got a letter from USCIS, it states: "Your request for removal of the conditional basis of your permanent resident status has been approved. You are deemed to be a lawful permanent resident of the United States as of the date of your original admission or adjustment of status"...

My question:

1. I read on some threads here that the USCIS sometimes issue 2yr GC's? The letter I got did not indicate if I as approved for a 2 yr or 10 yr GC?

2. My 3rd yr anniversary will be on April 2007. Does this mean I can already apply for Citizenship on Jan 2007? (90 days before your your original admission or adjustment of status)

3. What's the next step? I already made an infopass appointment. What documents should I bring besides the pictures? Should it be originals or copies?

Thanks all for your support, I would have never made it this far without this site and good people like you!!!

YAHOOO!

Hi again,

Follow-up question. I read in the other threads that I need to bring my passport with me during my infopass appointment. I have an expired passport though. Do I need to have this renewed first before I show up for my appointment?

Thanks again.

DannyM, I forget your details and you don't have a timeline, buuuuut. If you are already a Permanent Resident, have had a green card and filed I-751 (as your quoted letter states) then there is ONLY one answer: a 10-year card.

Your Q2 indicates that you already had a two year green card. You have misunderstood what you read about USCIS sometimes issuing 2 year cards. If I read you right, you are already past that.

You can determine your naturalization schedule by FIRST visiting the pinned post in the Citizenship Forum here at VJ. The 3rd anniversary you need to llok at is the 3rd since you became a PR, not marriage (I think you understand this). Be sure to carefully count your time spent outside of the US to make sure you qualify in all of the areas (there is more than just being a PR for the right number of years).

Bring everything your letter tells you to bring to your Infopass. Old GC, photos, your appointment letter. Ask them for a copy of the Guide to Naturalization while you are there. It's too many pages to print out of your own computer! :) Start studying!

CONGRATULATIONS!

:)

Congratulations. I am a bit puzzled. Your letter states that your request to remove the conditional status of your permanent residency has been approved. That means that you previously had a 2 year green card so removing the conditions means that you are now qualified for the 10 year card. You should be receiving your 10 year card in the mail shortly.

I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong) that it is 3 years as a permanent resident married to a US spouse, not just 3 years of marriage to a US spouse to qualify for citizenship. Your profile states that you came as a K-1 so the three years will start from when your adjustment of status was approved, not from the date of your wedding.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

That's probably close. :)

I always recommend using a date calculator--you can find one via google, or someone posted a good one not long ago...

HI! I have the same letter ! You gonna receive a 10 year card! Condratulations!

They wouldn't state that the Removal Condtions was approved if they were gonna give you a 2 year card, doesent make sense., as the Removal of Conditions means the Removal of Conditions on your Conditional Residency and that means that they supposely should issue the 10 year card.

Best wishes.

Sincerely.
