Timeline

the day of your interview: make sure you get there EARLY, at least by 630 even though the process doesn't start until 7-730. a man in a suit will approach the park (you or those waiting for you can not stand near the embassy, the blocks around the embassy are only for those passing through) and will address the crowd with instructions. afterwards he will begin to call names and give each person a number. If your number is not called, DONT PANIC, he will give you a chance to ask him questions once he is done calling names. make sure your fiance(e)/wife brings her CARNE DE IDENTIDAD and ALL paperwork needed. be prepared to wait a WHILE, however I due have to give credit where credit is due. Considering the amount of people that this office processes daily (Havana Interest Section, I think, handles more people than most embassies around the world) they move as quickly as possible. U will most probably be out by 3pm at the latest. don't bring any other items besides your paperwork because it makes things easier since you have to go through a security check area where you have to turn in any items they tell you to (you pick them up on your way out). The people at the embassy are very curtious, just make sure you do your part and LISTEN carefully to their instructions. once you are in your name will be called a few times for different purposes. for instance: JON DOE to window 1, here you turn in your paperwork, JON DOE to window 8, here you take your finger prints, JON DOE window 9, here you pay your VISA FEE, finally JON DOE window 1-5, here you do your interview...yes through a glass window. Make sure you have as many pictures as you can take, as many emails as you can print, phone call records and dont forget to give your fiance(e) your form I-134 with at least one of the items it asks for (letter from employer, tax returns with W2). If you plan on being there with your fiance than you can make things a lot easier for both of you, they don't care how you happen to be in the country so don't bring that part up. just bring your US passport and you can walk in with her and be with her through the whole process (including the interview). Once her/his VISA is approved and she is given a date to come pick it up, you can both comeback and skip the lines by approaching the guard shack and presenting the VISA PICK UP SLIP along with your passport and her ID and walk right into the embassy, turn in the slip, wait for your name to be called, pick up the passport with VISA (check your info on the visa before leaving) along with the YELLOW ENVELOPE which you ARE NOT to open and must handcarry to the states and turn in to immigration.
