Full-on hybrid vehicle or simply a low emissions vehicle?

Hello Wonder-Full VJers,

I'm inquiring about your personal experience.

If you have a hybrid vehicle, I'd love to hear about which one and why you selected that one.

If you chose an extremely low-emissions gas powered vehicle, which one and why...

Thanks!

Hell no! My 1986 Chevy 3/4 ton gets 11 mpg. But, I will make a change before gas heads to $5.00/gal again.

The 2010 Chevy Malibu Hybrid isn't worth the buy. I read in the Car Buyer magazine that this car is still a gasaholic. It consumes the same amount of gas as the gasoline one.

Amazingly, the new Ford Taurus(or maybe the focus, forgot which one) Hybrid 2010 model consumes less gas than the Toyota Camry Hybrid 2010. Toyota has always dominated fuel efficiency in terms of hybridization. Even the 2009 Ford Focus Hybrid from Ford only let it increase it fuel mileage to 1 or 2 point difference compared to the gasoline; and surprisingly the new 2010 hybrid machine is many times more efficient.

Maybe you should start.

St. Paul, Minn. — A new federal law is now rewarding companies for promoting bike riding by their workers.

The Bicycle Commuter Act was part of the fine print included in the Wall Street bailout that Congress passed last fall.

It went into effect at the beginning of the year -- and can bring companies a $20 tax credit per month for each biking employee. Whether they pass that money on to the employee is up to the company.

Steve Clark of the Twin Cities nonprofit Transit for Livable Communities has been pushing for the legislation. He told MPR's Steven John how it works.

I ride in a van pool to work so I get the equivalent of 150 mpg on average.

We having an aging van, but we probably drive it less than 10 miles a week on average, if that. (I walk to work, last drove the car... on the 10th, I think.) We kicked around looking at a hybrid, but when we looked at other efficient vehicles, something that was a traditional gas engine came out to reasonably close, and maintenance costs are cheaper on traditional engines.

I haven't read about the 2010 Malibu, but I know the 09 hybrid only gets a few mpg better than the comparable gas model. It doesn't have the numbers the Nissan Altima hybrid has which are very good for a fairly good sized car.

We have a 2004 Honda Civic (Value Package) and it is labeled as being a low emissions vehicle. We bought it because it was cheap and it gets great mileage. When gas got up to nearly $4 here in Houston I laughed at the crybabies whining on the news every night when interviewed gassing up their land barges.

Why even consider a Smart Car when the mass produced Honda Civic 4-door sedan is a better all around car and can haul 4 people and a trunk full of groceries. The Toyota Corolla 4-door sedan is just as practical too.

I liked the Civic (Value Package) because it offered an economy model with crank windows and bare bones necessities at an affordable price. Not to mention that it is a low emission vehicle that should give the tree huggers a #######. It's not a real sexy car, but it fits the bill if you want a practical car that is economical and has a small carbon footprint.
