JAKES WHATS GOING ON

kool. i was applying for more jobs today. i hope i get it i think it would be perfect for me. it's with a non profit org. that does rehabilitation for disabled folks right here in gary. i will be working in the clerical dept. if i get the job. i hope the pay is reasonable.i am thinking of going back to school to due a degree in social work.

Evening All : )

Good luck with the job search Jakes....hope u get it! I've been a hospital social worker for the last 10 years but before I had my Master's Degree in social work, and did the hospital work...I did a bunch of entry level jobs in mental health. Like Roxie pointed out, u can atleast benefit from their tuition reimbursement plan if ur still interested in social work etc.

tnw you are where i want to be and i am 30. i think i start late since i have to get a masters to do counselling which will take up to 4 yrs or more.

Hey Ladies, wha gwaan??

Hey Mrs P, good to see you back. I know you enjoyed yourself.

Okay yall i have been on the net for days and getting different resources and opinions ( thanks sus) what i am in need of is a decent priced villa in Mammee Bay or a 2 bedroom in OChi, i am taking my sons this trip and so i have to find larger accomodations and someplace that i can keep them occupied.???

Shaunsgirl, it will work out for you in the long run, i will keep you in my prayers, i know this has got to be exhausting mentally.

Hola Honey! Did u look at Crane Ridge Resort in Ochi? They have 2 bdr suites.

I am so excited I am bursting tonight.

Dont' know if you all know how huge a baseball fan I am....but, I've got it bad. Had it bad all my life. (love a few other sports too.....Go STEELERS!!). Anyhow, St. Louis has the major league baseball all star game this year. Looking up tickets on ebay and right now, IF you can even get them, they are like $800+ for 2 tickets. There's a whole week of festivities surrounding the game that week too. Downtown will be a zoo.

I happened upon our team site to look for tickets and found out they are looking for volunteers for the week. I SIGNED UP IMMEDIATELY. I want to be a part of all the festivities and attend the game so bad you can't imagine. To do it free....to be a part of it all, would just be incredible. Wish me luck cause I want this more then anything I've wanted in a really long time. Sports fan's dream. My best friend signed up and we signed up to work together. on the same shifts. So, wish us both luck.

GOOD LUCK JG!!!!!!

Hey Jakes,

I am a social worker also and thinking about returning to school., I have years of experience working with kids, adults, offenders, foster care, mental health, juvenile justice, guardianships you name it, but because i dont have a Masters degree im running into a ceiling with my earnings. At my job now, you cant even hire in with less than a masters, and im making more than many of the master level social workers, but at some point if i dont hurry up and get a game plan they will pass me in earnings and advancement opportunities. I also work for a nonprofit and they have excellent everything far as benefits but they dont offer tuition reimbursement. I am also considering getting into probation, so i can quit being warm and fuzzy for a minute.

Mrs P, i read about your client in the office today...girl one of my group home clients got mad cause he was told he couldnt light a cigarette on the stove, he then proceeded to kick his group home manager in the back, flipped a bookcase and threw a lamp, suffice to say tomorrow i will be doing a hospital visit...LOL( for him, not her)

Mrs P, i emailed Marzouca who i use most of the time for rates at Crane Ridge, Columbus Heights and Sandcastles, i also checked on a villa called WYnfield in Mammee Bay, but because when we will go is considered high season, it is turning out to be expensive[ i will be there for a week and most of the rates im running into are around 12-14 hundred (whistling)

Classy its not so bad really, the first few years i was on high burnout for real cause i was doing regular case management and i was dealing with everyone and there momma, going to some real rough areas, i mean i literally got broken in, but not before i developed insomnia and all types of stress from the job. I literally was ready to quit and then a position opened up in specialized residential services, that basically took me from working on a big team to working with 3 other people and being responsible only for the most severely mentally impaired clients we have in group homes, there treatment plans have to be more extensive, and the all have a host of health problems but on the upside most of them are so jacked up you know there not going anywhere.. so the stress has decreased in some ways by tenfold... its still alot of work, but nothing like the old days.

Ok...I am not familiar with what is available in Mammee Bay...I think there are some villas in Runaway Bay (right near Breezes) but I am not sure of their names. I can see if Belly can find out some info if you want. Have you settled on any dates yet? As far as the work thing goes, I am definitely feeling you guys on the need for advancement. Although I have a Master's in Counseling, most places don't want you and/or are not willing to pay until you are fully licensed! They will take provisional licensees on occasion, but don't want to pay you what you probably deserve for the work that you do. So, while I'm working on my licensure application I'm still looking for jobs. And in NC it takes 2 years to become licensed. I was thinking about moving to GA, but it takes 5 years (no less they state) to become licensed. For that reason alone, I decided to just stay in NC the next couple of years. I wish everyone look on their professional endeavors. We have to all keep each other motivated, and look out for one another if we hear something!

girl you dont have to bother Mr P, we will figure something out. Initially i never intended to be a social worker, not in a million years, i was on the way to law school, but i had a few friends who went thru law school who were giving mixed messages some saying HELL NO dont do it, others saying its not so bad, well i decided i wanted to explore the other areas in the legal field, so i started working with battered women as a legal advocate and going to court, then i moved from that to working in guardianships and probate, i moved on to working with kids who were in the court system but quickly got burned out, moved into mental health and foster care. Hell with all the experience, if i added a masters i could easily add about 7K or more a year to what im earning. The thought of going back to school though just makes me cringe,...LOL

I feel ya. When I was sitting in the Spanish class last nite, I was like, #######? I'm in a classroom--AGAIN! But with the ridiculously large spanish-speaking population that we have here in NC, I knew it was a must to go ahead and get some training under my belt. Plus alot of companies will pay you more and offer sign-on bonuses if you are bi-lingual, so....whatever I can do to increase my moola---I'm about trying to do!

hey honey i just read your post. thank you for the info. i didn't quite know what i want to do but somewhere in there i want to help people specifically those you are dealing with emotional issues that's why i was thinking about doing psychology but i will have to get a masters to do counselling and i may have to specialize which will take another 2 years. i got info on social work and realize i can do counselling with a masters in social work but still have lots of opportunity in the field until then. i guess if i get the job i will explore my options in that company otherwise i will just work with another company but still consider my options to become a social worker. i am hoping the money will be reasonable for the clerical position. that's if i get it
