I'd like to go back to school and take a post-grad at a university/college in the US once my k1visa goes through and we are officially married.

Will I have to pay "out-of-state" tuition fees? I have NO plans to change my citizenship (I am Canadian).

Any help would be appreciated!

My soon-to-be state is Virginia, and Old Dominion, it looks like you are close to it :) Would you happen to know the laws there? Or where I can find this out?

check the web site for the university that you want to attend. If its supported by state tax payers, you would prob have to pay out-of-state tuition rates. If its a private university...possibly not. Depends on the policies set down by the regents of that university.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Just so you know... you fully retain Canadian citizenship if you were to become a naturalized U.S. citizen. There's a phrase in the naturalization oath that states "you must give up all ties to foreign nations" or whatever. Canada doesn't recognize that.

The one point you may not like is if you have both American and Canadian citizenship, the U.S. will view you as a U.S. citizen only. That's not a whole lot different from now, though. It sees you primarily as a permanent resident (being a Canadian citizen is an afterthought). In Canada, you'll always be recognized as a Canadian citizen unless you specifically give it up.

It depends on the regulations of your particular state. Sometimes, as legal spouse of a taxpaying state resident, one pays the in-state fee.

That is true in Indiana. They originally charged my husband out-of-state fees, but it was probably because they were stupid and thought he was on an international student visa. All he had to do was go to the bursar and show his green card and that was that. They wanted no proof of in-state residency, though he had it with him anyway. Weird, but there it was.

I'm in Virginia and going to NOVA, they based my residency on my wife, and since she had been a VA resident for over a year, I got instate tuition! But each school has different rules, so you are going to have to contact them.

You DON'T loose your Cdn citizinship if you become a USA citizen down the road. Even though at the oath ceremony you state you renounce your allegiance t oother countries, you do not, simple as that, lol I have dual Cdn/USA citiizenship

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

In MA, you have to be a LPR for a year to get in-state tuition if you go to a state college, and 6 months if you go to a community college. :)

That's usually true in most states, but frequently waived if you marry a resident of that state.
